MY dd has had some issues with a few girls since primary nothing major teasing mainly DD1 has dyspraxia so is a little awkward,

I did have to go into school when they were 10 but it seemed to die down. now they are at high school and 14 and they will still say things to her but she can hold her own,

well yesterday she came home raging about X Y Z had said her school skirt wasn't short enough ,
DDs skirt knee length she picked it but apparently they are all wearing 'bum hugging' skirts. these girls were laughing at her and saying did 'mummy' pick your skirt your a geek blah blah, now I have a dd who is back in her trousers this morning and I am that kids can be just mean

Geeks are cool. Geeks invented all the tech that their social lives revolve around.

Someone said that to me at that age and I was so pissed off I said I'd rather be a nerd than you. And walked off.

she is quite happy being geeky and tbh I think it bothered me more than her sigh she is quite good at comebacks I was just concerned she didn't wear her skirt this morning maybe she is just wanting a quiet life

Show her some pictures of pin up/rockabilly girls- they're undeniably cool, and knee length skirts are a staple.
I much rather look glamorous than have my cellulite knickers hanging out!

YANBU. I wholeheartedly believe this. When ds1 was primary aged he had long hair. He loved it (his uncle and his friends are all musicians with long hair) but ex mil insisted he got it cut short as he would be picked on. I asked her what would happen if he needed specs and he got picked on for that. Bullys just look for a victim and then find a reason to pick on them iyswim.

Let her know to embrace the geek.

Jay, I'm sorry to hear your daughter was picked on yesterday, I don't no whether tho gs have changed since I was at school but that was standard behaviour for many.

In answer you your question, yes a bully will always find something to bully about, if it's not the skirt it'll be the bag, not the bag it'll be the hairstyle etc etc.

I was always taught to be an individual and to not follow the crowd, why be a sheep? The girls that were bullying your daughter all have to be the same, isn't that sad.

I'll be teaching my kids the same, that you rise above stupid comments and you be an individual.

Do you think you can build her up enough tomorrow to wear the same skirt and give her some coping strategies for if they say stuff again? If she can beat this immature comments ffrom these girls then it'll set her up well to deal with any future stuff.

Hope she doesn't buy a bum hugging short skirt, individuality rules!!

I will tackle the skirt tomorrow we are not exactly morning people we sort of just grunt and point till she leaves for school I suppose it isnt the skirt is it it could be anything I found with dd1 that 14 was a 'funny' age and dd1 confidence slipped a bit , and it was difficult for us all, both my dds are indvidual and don't follow trends and that can be like a red rag to some kids the just zoom in on it

I like how you havent immediately jumped on her with the "why arent you wearing your skirt today?" that used to make things worse with me when i was at school being bullied for not having latest trends. Its great your dd can talk to you about this. A lot of kids wont talk to anyone about being bullied. But i agree with all the other posts, geeks do a lot for others. You wait till a few years after school when she bumps into them again. The difference will be astonishing.
