To want the neighbour to stop her relatives from parking in my parking spot?

A few years ago, the neighbour demanded that I park on his side of the road to prevent double parking. We called him 'Scotch Git Man' because he was Scottish and was a git.

I parked my car in front of his daughter's car and have been parking there ever since.

SGM has died recently (few weeks ago) and his wife and this daughter have been having relatives to stay and they've been taking my parking spot Hmm There are other places for them to park - a few metres along the street.

The other day I parked behind the daughter's car and saw her glaring at me through the window Hmm

She knows that's my parking spot. She's a git too.

I don't want to park up the street, as I don't want her to get one over on me as she's a git and I don't think gits should get their own way all the time.

AIBU?

I'd like to add that they try and dictate to other people in the street where they can park and have had several arguments with other people. They're well known for being like this.

(they're not nice and soft and fluffy like wot I am) Wink

OOh a parking thread I love these. YANBU but will be told you don't own the road and they can park where they like.

Yes they are all gits.

FannyFifer · 25/08/2012 20:57

You are unreasonable due to the fact that Scotch is a drink, therefore he should be called "Scottish git man".

Sparklingbrook · 25/08/2012 20:57

But they have had a bereavement so I will withdraw my 'they are gits' post, as I am even softer and fluffier than you. Smile

MisForMumNotMaid · 25/08/2012 20:57

You need some road cones. Go on you know you want to up the anti!

FannyFifer · 25/08/2012 20:58

Or dead Scottish git man, whichever you prefer.

hiddenhome · 25/08/2012 20:58

I don't own the road, but I do my bit by not parking outside my own house thus causing a double parking problem. I expect to be respected for this and not to have my parking spot nicked by various members of The Git Family Grin

It's not a huge problem because we're going to be at the flat soon, so I won't even be parking there anymore, but want to assert myself before I leave ifyswim. I hate people pushing me around these days and am becoming a stroppy git myself if truth were to be known.

(disclaimer: I still act all nice and soft and fluffy) Wink

On the street parking? Yabu, very much so. Anyone can park anywhere they want really, unless doing something like blocking drives etc.

Get over VH1

MrsKeithRichards · 25/08/2012 20:59

VH1? It!

But the git family are bereaved hidden. Sad

Anyway how are you? How's the house and is everyone ok?

hiddenhome · 25/08/2012 21:00

Oh, yes, of course Blush Scottish Git Man. Sorry for that.

The bereavement was weeks ago and this is a separate issue. I am having none of this sympathy stuff. SGM shouted at me when I was pregnant with ds2.

It's a STREET. Public property. No designated spots. YABU.

SoupDragon · 25/08/2012 21:01

WTF?! ARe you serious? The man has died and you are bleating on about people parking in "your" spot of the public road? Charming.

SoupDragon · 25/08/2012 21:02

Gosh, a few weeks ago eh? Well they should have forgotten all about him and got on with it shouldn't they. Hmm

maybenow · 25/08/2012 21:02

yabu. as somebody who lives on a street of tenement flats (so eight families in a building with about 2-3 car lengths of on-street parking) i can't believe how precious people can get about parking right by their house - we're over the moon if we can see the car from our flat! walking a few hundred metres isn't going to kill you or me or anybody who doesn't qualify for a blue badge.

hiddenhome · 25/08/2012 21:03

The house is getting on my nerves atm.

It's still full of dh's rotten stuff and he's not chucking it out. I have packed my stuff up and we're currently moving into the flat. The flat is lovely and clean and non cluttered. I have been bleaching it today and it's minimalist heaven atm Grin

The cat followed us up there the other day and I'm worried in case he wants to move in too. He has to remain at the house because it has a catflap and he needs to go in and out.

Life is complex and everything smells of bleach and I don't need this woman to be getting one over on me Grin

(thank you for asking) Grin

No restrictions, presumably? Then they can park where they like.

and sorry but YABU for referring to him as Scotch.

PenisVanLesbian · 25/08/2012 21:04

Unless you have a legally designated paring spot, you're the git.

And scotch is for inanimate objects, not people.

ChaoticismyLife · 25/08/2012 21:04

Exactly but as it's a public street then you can park outside your own home if you want to Wink

Hmm, so I can park in her spot then?

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 25/08/2012 21:05

Or,

I can park on my side of the road and give her something to glare about?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 25/08/2012 21:05

'Exactly but as it's a public street then you can park outside your own home if you want to'

If no one else is there.

nocake · 25/08/2012 21:06

If it's a public street you can park where the hell you like, assuming there are no parking restrictions and you're not blocking a driveway.
