Some shitty chocolate lolly maker and a foot spa filled with beads were just 2 of a plethora of shite advertised on telly.

Wtf?

Do people really buy this stuff?

I quite agree! We don't normally watch TV (just lots of DVDs) but as there's no school my DCs have been watching Milkshake every morning so are suddenly seeing loads of adverts. I find myself watching like this Confused

A lot of them seem really lazy too. Like the sand art maker thing. What happened to just sprinkling on the sand yourself?! No, you need a machine to do it for you.

And the jingles. Oh god, the jingles.

BlackberryIce · 25/08/2012 17:07

All the girls stuff is rubbish!

IvanaHumpalot · 25/08/2012 17:11

My particular favourite at the moment is the pooing dog game, hotly followed by the 'fake' tattooing needle. Can't decide what to get DS for Christmas - ah well there're only young once - I'll get him both.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 25/08/2012 17:12

Haven't there always been shit toys though?

When I look at things like Clackers now for instance, I kind of wonder how they were so engaging!

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 25/08/2012 17:13

And I never forgave my mother for not letting me have the Dairy Milk Money box, and the Mr Frosty ice maker, until DS became a more questioning consumer!

KitCat26 · 25/08/2012 17:17

Binfull I had a dairy milk money box. You could put 2p half in, take it out again and still get chocolate. There were re-fills but mum (wisely) would never buy them!

stargirl1701 · 25/08/2012 17:20

Oh I wanted the Mr Frosty too! Not allowed!!! Sad

fuzzpig · 25/08/2012 17:21

Mr frosty is always mentioned on these threads :o

I didn't get Mr Frosty either, or play doh barber shop.
I bought DD play doh barber shop and it was shite.

anditwasallyellow · 25/08/2012 17:30

rubbish toys

Check this out for a rubbish toy, ds has wanted it ever since he seen ti advertised.

akaemmafrost · 25/08/2012 17:31

I cannot STAND hoovers or irons or such like as toys and I know that loads will come on and say their kids love them but they are NOT toys! I saw a Henry Hoover one with ALL attachments! Woo hoo! It actually made me Angry.

akaemmafrost · 25/08/2012 17:33

I had a Mr Frosty and I know I am in the minority here Grin it was great actually, loved it. I also have an unopened one I got on EBay for ds a couple of years ago. I am loathe to let him have it though. I might just pop it back on eBay and see what o can get for it Wink.

SigmundFraude · 25/08/2012 17:34

My mother bought Mr Frosty for me in my 30's. She finally grew tired of me pointing out that I'd desperately wanted it as a child, but never got one.

It was disappointingly rubbish (although it's likely that the quality had gone downhill, much better quality with 70's toys than the nineties versions).

waterwatereverywhere · 25/08/2012 17:41

I'm horrified every time I watch adverts - DD (3) has reached reached the awareness age where she will stand in front of the TV saying "I want that. I want that" at everything!

The bead foot spa nearly pushed me over the edge - that and all these sparkly invite/business card/tag makers! Agree with a PP who asked when did we stop simply giving them glue, card and sparkles!

5madthings · 25/08/2012 17:47

i had the dairy milk money box and we did get refills! (smug)

and and ds4 had a henry hoover he loved it!

i have seen the foot thing and agree it looks shite! sometimes kids like shite tho!

toys def seem crapper for girls if you go down the 'girls' toy route. my dd is only 20mths and the only thing girly she has so far is a pink windmill from elc. i actually wanted 'bluebell boot' but it had sold out :(

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 25/08/2012 17:47

sigmund in the same vein I bought my DSIL a Girls World Head, and my husband the Bionic Man doll for their 40th birthdays.

Convert · 25/08/2012 17:49

I had a Mr Frosty and it was shit. Didn't work properly and I was soooo dissapointed!!

SigmundFraude · 25/08/2012 17:50

Ah, Girl's World...I had one of those (in the 70's), loved it! I'm all for a bit of childhood nostalgia, it's a great idea for a gift.

Convert · 25/08/2012 17:50

I always wanted one of those doll heads that you put make up on though.

Convert · 25/08/2012 17:51

Just realises that its a girls world head!!

NoComet · 25/08/2012 17:54

Don't DD2 made a beady foot spa with her huge box of Hama Beads.

Took ages before they dried and I got my plastic sieve back.

whatsinthebagangelos · 25/08/2012 17:58

Anyone remember those yellow plastic teapots with people who lived inside? It was really average in terms of what it actually did but I LOVED mineGrin

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 25/08/2012 17:59

I bought my stepdaughter Mr Frosty as I'd never had it. To say it was crap would be an understatement. I'm not sure who was more disappointed!

I had the Cadbury money box, I did buy some refills with my pocket money. But it was more fun to just eat the choc and forget the money box!

My boys only really watch CBBC so don't get to watch many ads, they do like the Argos catalogue and ask for crap from it. They don't even play with toys so they don't get stuff.

SigmundFraude · 25/08/2012 18:09

Yes, I remember the yellow teapot. How about the Palitoy tree house, fisher price house with working bell, Fisher price desk & electronic battleships.

I had a Cadbury's money box every year as I always managed to break mine between one X'mas and the next.

I was more of a chemistry set kind of girl though really. I was always disappointed. Mum knew better than to get me one!
