Some shitty chocolate lolly maker and a foot spa filled with beads were just 2 of a plethora of shite advertised on telly.

Wtf?

Do people really buy this stuff?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 25/08/2012 18:14

Early Learning Centre HappyLand. The new stuff.

I'm so fucking glad im no longer on the payroll I'd be embarrassed having to sell the shit.

Not only is it smaller, with less pieces but they've put the price up! Twats.

BedHeadTigi · 25/08/2012 18:21

The rubix cube was amazing at the time, in the 80's, but really if you think about it they are not that good.

trikken · 25/08/2012 18:40

I had a red case that turned into a post office with a window and proper ink stamps and headed paper etc. I loved that but haven't seen another.

fairyfriend · 25/08/2012 19:48

Trikken, I had that! I absolutely loved it!

CrapBag · 25/08/2012 20:02

I think I had the post office too. I also had Mr Frosty and I was disappointed that it wasn't as good as it looked. I ALWAYS wanted the cadburys chocolate machine and never got it. Now DS is asking for it every time he sees it.

That bead/foot spa thing does look crap. I remember being happy with dolls with pram, clothes etc. Not baby fucking born that comes with a windsurfer or a quadbike, who wants this shite for a doll. I do like the scaled down house hold items though. I loved playing house and that when I was younger.

Luckily DS is in to playmobil now and DD who is only 18 months seems to like it so I can buy more for me them.

maddening · 25/08/2012 21:41

ds loves peppa pig and ben and holly so we see these adds on nick jr - cuddleuppits and shoulder buddies seem pretty dire

Foslady · 25/08/2012 22:06

Once dd cottoned on to CITV and all it's bloody adverts we had a talk about how unfair it all was for children to see all this stuff and mummies and daddies who couldn't afford it all, esp when I added up 1 commercial breaks value and I informed her that in those few mins it would cost me more than my weekly wage to buy it all leaving no money for food, clothes, paying to live in the house......soon got her on to the adults side!!!!

pigletmania · 25/08/2012 22:07

They don't make toys like they used to

joanofarchitrave · 25/08/2012 22:11

ds watches a lot of CITV Blush and is used to me exploding during the adverts, but even he jumped at my scream of 'WHAT' when the foot spa came on.

Imagine being involved with producing that during your work. What shame.

McHappyPants2012 · 25/08/2012 22:14

Baby dolls that do stuff is weird a baby can't windsurf. The worst I have seen was a Bridal baby and groom baby.

I had a tamagotchi and was major pissed off that my mum let it die when i was in school. What else did she have to do to allow my virtual pet the due :( never had a mr frosty or chocolate coin thing

TraineeBabyCatcher · 25/08/2012 22:17

AIBU to not know what Mr frosty is.

Ds's birthday is not for 3 months and the I want I want I want has already started.

peeriebear · 25/08/2012 22:18

Every Christmas my DDs ask for one of those chocolate coin makers after seeing the ads. I have to point out every year that IT'S SHIT and they get tons of chocolate coins in their stockings!
I get well annoyed with toys that only do one thing. Zero imagination, can't be used to just 'play' with.
However I thought the beady foot spa looked really cool Blush

TraineeBabyCatcher · 25/08/2012 22:21

As for the comment about the hoover, I bought ds a baby henry Hoover, the house had been sparkling ever since ;)

Lilliana · 25/08/2012 22:24

Mum and Dad have just emptied the loft and found my big yellow teapot and treehouse. DC1 is on the way so they're keeping them for him/her.

I had a Mr Frosty [smug]

I never had an a la carte kitchen and blame my poor cooking skills on this fact. (So much that Ddad searched the internet for one to give me on my wedding day Grin)

Hoping it will be a few years before I have to buy the shit I see advertised atm.

GlassofRose · 26/08/2012 10:47

BigYellowTeapot

I loved the teapot & the Big red bus!

GlassofRose · 26/08/2012 10:50

and the pumpkin & treehouse... (lots of second hand toys as a kid) Smile

I had a shufty at the footspa... £29.99 for that wtf?!

littlemslazybones · 26/08/2012 11:30

Did that yellow teapot come with weebles? (Weebles wobble but they don't fall down) Or did I imagine that?

SoleSource · 26/08/2012 11:54

I had dough barbershop, mr frosty. Cindy horse.

IWantAnotherBaby · 26/08/2012 12:39

My children watch and adore the adverts, but quite seriously tell me (repeatedly) that they know the adverts are just trying to make people spend their money on rubbish things that will break quickly so they have to buy more (not that I have indoctrinated them with this - honest!).

We fell for it once and bought 'the magic tooth fairy game'. It was such a pile of shite that I avoid all such tat now (so have declined requests for 'elefun' et al).

louisianablue2000 · 26/08/2012 13:17

DD2 got a ben and Holly playset for her birthday. The DDs were so excited about it until it came out of the box and then after five minutes DD1 announced it was boring. They then spent the rest of the morning playing with the plasticine one of my friends had given them. 1/10 of the cost and 10 times more fun. The DH stood on the playset and broke it that afternoon.

I got a Sindy horse when I was a kid, I was so excited because the BIGGEST box under the tree was for me. It was absolutely the best Christmas present ever and I loved it. DB found it in my parent's attic and now his boys play with it.

fuzzpig · 26/08/2012 13:45

DD got the Ben and Holly Gaston's Cave toy last year and the magec magnetic thing broke within the day Angry

RubixCube · 26/08/2012 13:56

baby expressions used to look scary and she was expensive too.I remember my nan bought me and my sis easy bake oven i think they were called.I used to love it

RubixCube · 26/08/2012 14:05

Me and my sister used to collect plastic dummies.Useless but we loved them. You used to be able to buy minature ones and came in all different colours

Waitingforastartofall · 26/08/2012 14:09

Ive bought the foot spa thing! In my defence sd really wanted it for her birthday which is in two weeks, the box is huuuuge. Im dreading all the orbeez going straight up the hoover!

flipflopper · 26/08/2012 14:19

I bought my niece the peppa pig treehouse for her bday. It cost £25 and it is TINY, has a seesaw and comes with ONE figure! So you cant even play with it properly. I hate to think what it would add up to to buy the whole village. Really nasty quality.

I also hate the adverts. The doggy doo game is one that really grates. There is also a game advertised where you basically hve to set off lot of bouncing popper things and catch as many as you can. Hate to think how much that will rip you off.

The toy manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves.
