To be pleased that I was asked for ID in Waitrose whilst attempting to buy a bottle of wine

I'm 35, it put a little pep in my step.

I veered between flattered and blind panic annoyance that I'd have to traipse to another shop to get my booze.

Blind Panic Annoyance won out so I stared him down and he handed it over. Grin

You must look so young!

squoosh · 24/08/2012 19:58

Ha! I do have a Waitrose but I did buy the cheapest red I could find!

They'd have flung me out if they'd spied my bank balance.

This happened to me once. I was torn between amusement at how blind the checkout lady must have been (I'm 42) and horror at what would have happened if I hadn't had my driving licence on me. I can only imagine my reaction on being told I couldn't have my wine - would not have been pretty.....

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 24/08/2012 20:00

I'm with Euphemia on this one!

What face cream do you use squoosh? I need to buy some!

I think they might use wine as a bench mark for how old you are, my theory is if you refuse a 15 year old their friday night wine the horror wouldn't be the same as if you refuse a 35 year old their friday night wine, you know just how good it is :)

pjmama · 24/08/2012 20:02

Cheers! Wine

Kayano · 24/08/2012 20:07

I Pinky promised the guy who IDd me lol.
Probably not the wisest idea as it made me Look about 12 but it worked!!!

Another time I just smirked, pointed to my head and said 'check it out, I have a forehead wrinkle' and he served me Grin

SamanthaStormer · 24/08/2012 20:10

Ha, I'd have been the same (also mid 30's and never gets ID'd.) Was out in a pub with sis and her mate, they both got ID'd. I got served straight away, no questions asked. obviously looks like a haggard old trout Angry

elliejjtiny · 24/08/2012 20:36

That happened to me a few months ago. I walked out of asda waitrose with a huge grin on my face.

nokidshere · 24/08/2012 20:36

I'm always quite upset that no-one asks me for id when I am buying alcohol - but then I am very old!!! LOL

KellyElly · 24/08/2012 20:38

I'm 33 (nearly 34) and got asked for I'd for the lottery the other day and have for cigarettes and alcohol. I think some people are obviously just a bit officious as clearly noone in their 30's looks 18!

MyndAndMist · 24/08/2012 20:39

I'm 32 and regularly get asked for ID in Waitrose I usually flap "BUT I'M THIRTY TWO AND I'VE GOT TWO KIDS!" and then thank them profusely Grin

freddiefrog · 24/08/2012 20:43

It's happened to me twice [stealth boast]

1st time I was quite pleased, I had my purse with me and just gave them my drivers licence.

2nd time I had a bit of a sense of humour failure, I'd bunged a tenner in my jeans pocket and walked down to the shop so had no ID on me.

I'm 36 and look every day of those 36 years!

I am jealous. I walked past a woman handing out flyers outside a nightclub the other day. She looked at me and handed to flyer to the girl behind me. I'm only 29 FFs

Kayano · 24/08/2012 20:50

29 Shock so old!

WinkGrin

squoosh · 24/08/2012 20:56

I should admit that this was in Scotland where you have to be over 25 to buy booze in the supermarket. I don't think even the blind people of Haggard Town could mistake me for an 18 year old.
