To be annoyed that DH bought me an E Cigarette?

Ok...I smoke...I had planned to buy the same E cigarette that my friend has succesfully given up with...she was here today and she offered to get mine for me as she lives close to the shop.

I thanked her and said that since we were meeting up on Sunday, I would give her the cash (£30) and she could get it. DH heard all this and was there.

The guy she gets hers from has a shop dedicated only to this...and hers has been great.

So...just now DH came back from the shop up the road...Coop or OneStop I think...with some cheapo version. £7.00.

It requires a charger....it requires more cash for refills than the one I planned to buy and it is like a big fat imitation cigarette from a joke shop whilst the one my friend has is more "medical" looking somehow...I prefer it.

I was really annoyed for some reason! I had got my head around my new one arriving on Monday....I planned to begin fresh on that day.

I feel he's wasted money and taken over my giving up! He says "Just try it!" and I say NO. I am buying the one I planned to buy! AIBU?

Being completely honest here.
You are annoyed because you planned to give up on Monday and he's given you the tool to give up today, Thursday.
You don't want to give up do you?

If the particular brand you wanted is the one for you, then YABU. Giving up smoking is bloody difficult, and will take every ounce of will power and determination you have as it is. Just go and get the right one as you'd planned and maybe put the other one away "for emergencies" or "just in case" and stick it in the very back of a drawer somewhere.
Good Luck with the giving up too.

I do want to give up, it's just that a big part of that is psychological preparation. You need to know it's coming...I've never tried before and have read up....they say it's no good just suddenly doing it...

But YANBU to have 'nice' thing that you really wanted. Irrelevant what it is, no one wants to be bought a crap version of something they wanted to buy themselves.

YANBU - it's the principle - be it E Fag, chocolate or shoes.... I'd be pissed if my DH came home with a cheapo version of anything he knew I'd already sorted.

Imagine having ordered a BEEEEG bag of proper Smarties, and in trots DH with a small bag of those cheapo "Chocolate Beans" and insists you try them instead. Who wouldn't be pissed? lol!

Yes Pom....I will put the other away for emergencies. Good idea. I AM going to get the "good one" that my mate has....she was a heavy smoker...worse than me and she's done amazingly with it.

YANBU to use the e cig that you want, or to want to set your own quit date. You need time to prepare to give up, and you need to have control over the process and do it exactly your way or you will be less likely to succeed. Just explain that to your DH.

Thanks WelshMaenad...I physically panicked when he walked in brandishing it! I actually scowled and he was going "But it's GOOD! It GLOWS and makes smoke and everything!"

I wish he'd got me chocolate!

So say thank you and start using it on Monday. If it doesn't work then get the other one and try that instead.
Giving up is damn hard work, and to be honest I still think it sounds like you are looking for reasons not to stop. (oh and I did that for years so have some experience ).

I gave up using E cigs, and I started with a cheap one and quickly moved on to a £70 one.

the cheap one was OK to start with, I suppose because it was new! but i quickly got used to it and it was not enough. the £70 totally wicked Ecig was VERY good and really helped.

doesn't help you at all, but was my experience!

My dh did this, ordered one without saying anything til it arrived, I was really shocked he had done this, without saying anything, I actually felt a bit I dunno, not bullied but forced. I did try it and it was shit. I would rather stop like I did before on the lozenges from Boots.

He's actually being a bit of a wanker now about it. He came in a minute ago and asked where it was... told him by the laptop...he said "Have you tried it? You've nt even tried it!"

And I said "You saw me try it when you bought it...he was all grinning about it and somehow gloating.

So I told him I'd be using it for emergencies as I was still getting the other one and he was all "Oh there'll be no difference"

And I'm like "Yes...that's why yours was 7 quid and the other is 30..."

Dick he is. He keeps saying they're all the same and that 30 pounds is too much...OH YES! WHen I spend more than that weekly anyway!

If he brings it back to shop he can get you 20 fags in exchange! Whats not to like about that solution... thats just men for you they like to solve problems but if you want to stop smoking then have to do it in your own time with your chosen resources .. tell him to smoke it if he thinks it so good :)

Can anyone recommend good ones? I am interested in trying one sick of being an outcast I don't even smoke in public, but am badly addicted and it's embarrassing, frankly.

lol, I stopped for two years on those things :) a big family drama made me start again, but using them when I can't smoke, I KNOW I could do it again, just need to get my mind in gear :)

Aurora...it's shit. It's like smoing air. I smoke and a cigarette gives me a "hit" but this fake one is like nothing. My friends one is similar to a real one.

Moaning...I don't even know the name of my friends...just that she's getting me the same one! It IS embarrassing isn't it.
