To think that they just don't make films like they used to!

Ive just watched Pretty Woman with dd13. She's not seen it before. It's one of those lovely escapist slushy romances that they just don't make any more. You can't beat Julia and Richard, or Meg and Tom for that matter!

YABU - African Queen is much more unbeatable and lots of years older.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 22/08/2012 22:53

Oh I quite agree, I love Carey Grant, Gregory Peck, Bogey, and all the lovely old black and white movies. But my era are just lovely too.

I saw the thread title and I thought........

It well went downhill when Harold Lloyd stopped hanging off perilously high clock faces.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 22/08/2012 23:06

Grin @ Harold Lloyd! We used to watch reruns of HL on a Sunday morning before The Waltons!

Me too!

I was 13 when Pretty Woman came out, I think I can quote most of the script. Even though the general message of the film is very dodgy when you think about it, I'd still love to be whisked off on a private plane for a date, wearing a full length red velvet gown. I'm an understated kind of gal!

Valpollicella · 22/08/2012 23:20

See I saw the title and thought of thibgs like The Godfather, or films with Steve McQueen or Michael Caine. Given they are such classics I do wonder what films from today" will still have the same cultness in 20/30/40/50 years time....?

I cant think of one off the top of my head Maybe the Bourne films? Or The Matrix (even that...the first one is alread13 years old!).

squoosh · 22/08/2012 23:20

I never liked the Meg/Tom films too much, especially You've Got Mail, that's dire.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 22/08/2012 23:22

Squoosh "Cinder-fucking-rella" Grin
Sadly, you lose points for saying that you don't like Meg and Tom. You've Got Mail is like, THE BEST! I cry every time!

I'd like to change my thread title to "they don't like slushy romances like they did in my day!"

'You and I are so alike, we both screw people for money'.

Cannot believe you like You've Got Mail. You even put it in caps! The best thing I can say about it is that it's not as bad as Runaway Bride. Please don't tell me you like that!

Valpollicella · 22/08/2012 23:42

Saggs did know it is 25 years today that Dirty Dancing was released?
