to think that drunken singing in the street is not on

I'm currently staying with my parents and my brother and sister have just got back from a barbeque with some friends. Me, my other sister and my mum were just sat in the front room and we could hear two people singing very badly in the street. About a minute later I could tell who the two voices belonged to and it was theirs, as they got closer to the house. My sister laughed it off saying that it's harmless fun and should stop being boring. AIBU to think that you shouldn't sing in the street.

YABU, but only because I've done it several times as a student and would be a hypocrite to disapprove.

TyrannoSoreArse · 22/08/2012 21:08

AIBU to think that you shouldn't sing in the street.

Absolutely not. Disgraceful. Up there with urinating, surely.

Hmm
MrsPresley · 22/08/2012 21:09

YABU

I'd rather listen to singing than arguing.

WorraLiberty · 22/08/2012 21:09

My drunken singing is second to none

Even the neghbourhood dogs join in with me Grin

topknob · 22/08/2012 21:10

OP lighten up :)

ryten · 22/08/2012 21:14

YANBU terrible behaviour, I've no problem with people having fun but subjecting others to terrible behaviour particukary at 8-9pm is deifantely on.

piop · 22/08/2012 21:16

YANBU can't stand having to listen to drunken shouting/singing when the pubs have closed.

TyrannoSoreArse · 22/08/2012 21:17

Will no one think of the children? Shock

What were they singing op? This is very important and could change the entire direction of the thread. If it was One Diection YASNBU. If it was Led Zeppelin YABVVVU.

Shakey1500 · 22/08/2012 21:17

It's 9pm not 3am. High jinks, people enjoying themselves. Hardly crime of the century Grin

Granted if you've a baby/toddler that may be woken, then it's high level "grrrr" moment, but not unreasonable on the whole.

OddBoots · 22/08/2012 21:17

I'd rather that than drunken arguing, on the rare times I have heard it then it has really made me smile, it's nice to hear people enjoying themselves.

hiddenhome · 22/08/2012 21:18

Arguing and fighting is probably more interesting, whereas singing is just a bit irritating or perhaps mildly amusing depending whether or not you have to be up early the next day Smile

They were singing Moonriver

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 22/08/2012 21:20

Am I the only one who would actually like to hear a drunken argument in the street, sung opera style?

"Yooooo utter bastarrrrd...yooooo stole my pint!"

"Don't be aaaa wankerrrr you're full of shite!"

Perhaps I need to move to a posher neighbourhood?

Ismeyes · 22/08/2012 21:22

YABU, and I have a strange urge to arrange a mass drunken sing-a-thon outside your house!

Shakey1500 · 22/08/2012 21:22

Moonriver a la Holly Gosprightly? Top tune Grin Could have been the Birdie Song.

MrsKeithRichards · 22/08/2012 21:22

Mooooooon river...

ryten · 22/08/2012 21:22

Interesting that people on MN when neighbours cut the grass or do DIY past 8 but think its fine for people to get pissed.

TyrannoSoreArse · 22/08/2012 21:23

Aw I like a bit of Moonriver. Makes me think of Breakfast at Tiffany's, and watching it under a duvet with a big mug of hot chocolate. Not that I've ever done this, but it seems like a lovely thing to do.

YABU.

ryten · 22/08/2012 21:24

people on MN moan

ailoun · 22/08/2012 21:27

YANBU its anti-social behaviour and no-one should have to put up with it.

Shakey1500 · 22/08/2012 21:41

ryten Op doesn't mention anything about them "being pissed"?

Sober people sing as well you know i should know I do it for a living Grin

nuloo · 22/08/2012 21:44

They were both drunk

OP posts:
Shakey1500 · 22/08/2012 21:48

Hazarded a guess they were OP, just didn't like the assumption.

Anyhow, grass cutting and DIY at 9pm at night is a sustained noise. Which is uncomparable to a bit of drunken singing. Unless they sang the entire score that is.

Lighten up!

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 22/08/2012 21:49

I like watching drunk people in the street, I think of it as street theatre.

Last Friday night me, dd1 and dd2 were peeping out of their window watching a drunken discussion that resulted in spontaneous singing Grin
