to expect DH to at least try to eat with me

We are both pretty unhealthy and have , in the past (ahem) ordered take outs with scary frequency. I have decided from now on - im cooking from scratch. I'm not a bad cook at all.... but if food is not ready the second DH gets home - he sorts himself out and refuses to wait. I want to do a weekly shop and get some sort of meal plan going for the week...but he has now told me just to look after myself - he doesn't want to be a part of it ! AIBU to be narked off at this ... he won't even try!

He doesn't want to be part of it? What the cooking part.

Yanbu. Unless as my dad doesand you stand making comments about onion chopping technique.

He sounds like either he hates your cooking, or can't be arsed to do anything.
Put a lock on the fridge. :)

He doesn't want to eat it! :( I am not a bad bloody cook! I don't expect him to help
! if I am cooking dinner - then I'll cook - I don't help him when he cooks. Im so tired of the take aways - and now he is being pig headed by refusing to eat home cooked food. Not sure what he will do for food....but I will go properly berserk if I go food shopping at the weekend for a meal plan and find that he is dipping into the food leaving me short of ingredients!

I'd say no problem, heres your half of the weekly food budget, knock yourself out.

You can then get on with planning for yourself.

HecateHarshPants · 22/08/2012 15:16

he doesn't want to change his eating habits, that's the thing. and if that's the case, then you won't change that. He has to WANT to.

Only buy really healthy stuff and stuff that has to be cooked. So no snack stuff, nothing that can be shoved down your neck. That'll stop him!

ivykaty44 · 22/08/2012 15:17

so what will he eat the second he gets in from work if the food needs cooking?

slowestwildebeast · 22/08/2012 15:20

What is he eating? I like cooking. I'd find it odd to just cook for me while dp ordered takeaway.
Do you have dc's?

There are lots of meals that can be made within 20-30 minutes of getting home. It takes much longer to get my fat arse into gear, drive to the takeawa, umm and ahhh about what to have, drive home stopping at the offy. So his way isn't saving any time, costs a lot more money and is unhealthy. Have you asked him outright what the issue is?

piazilla · 22/08/2012 15:40

HecateHarshPants : you hit the nail on the head. Unless it is EXACTLY what he fancies at that given moment, he won't eat it! He isnt even happy with a snack - he wants a full dinner. Even if I suggest grabbing a banana or whatever, no is the answer. No aggro just " its alright I'll sort myself out" - cue the phone being pulled out of his pocket!

ivykaty44 : I suspect he will go for a shwarma or something of that ilk!

slowestwildebeast : No DC's - and yes, its weird and a waste of energy to cook for just one I feel. That and the fact that I am trying to get healthy and that will be hard to do with no support!

NatashaBee : He tends not to eat lunch at work - so I can understand that he is completely famished. But like I said -unless it is exactly what he fancies when he comes in - he won't go for it! If I thought the hummous etc would do the trick I would try it! And the unfortunate thing is that where we live take aways are very very cheap!

worldgonecrazy :thats a good question - what is the issue? Well I am a bit famous for buying food and then changing my mind when the take away is called - then the food goes to waste - which he really has a bitch about. So his response is " you do what you like - but I have heard all of this before, so I will believe it when I see it! " Ok so I have a bad track record -but FFS enough is enough - am sick of being the only one trying!
