To be sick of Kamikaze kids on bikes...

Well actually I am not sick of the kids-more the idiotic parents who think it is right to let a child cycle on major roads when they are too young to understand road safety.

I drive responsibly. I do not speed. However in the last week I have had to do 2 emergency stops as kids-both aged 6 or 7-have flown out into the road right in front of my car-without even looking to see if the road is clear.

What type of stupid parent lets a child ride on roads without first making sure they are road safe. Neither child had a helmet on.

I used to work at an A&E and have witnessed cyclists dead on arrival after colliding with cars. I am very shaken up by this latest incident as I only just avoided striking the little girl. I nearly asked her what her address was as I was so fuming I wanted to have a rant at her parents.

Helmets are nearly useless above 18mph, if they were going that fast wouldn't make a difference anyway.
Sorry you're having such a stressful time (though my kids wouldn't be allowed, either).

I live down a street that has parked cars on both sides. The speed limit is 20mph and I do stick to that. Many's the time I've had kids just zoom out in front of me. Their other favourite habit is to lurk in front of my drive and inch oh so slowly out of my way when I'm trying to get in/out, whilst glowering at me. Off topic I know but just wanted to moan about it a bit.
