I'm such a wuss! He is nearly 8 months. He eats mashed food slightly lumpy. Its the finger foods that scare me. He has top and bottom teeth that bite off huge chunks that I am fishing out of his mouth all the time! He is my 2nd child I can't remember what I did with dd but she eats fine now.
I just think of stories about children choking on grapes etc in the papers!

Was going to say YABU but as you recognise it's irrational I guess you aren't! I never gave my ds mashed stuff in the first place so never had to worry about changing!

There's stories about all sorts in the papers, you'd never go out if you worried about them all....except the home is the dangeerous place of all eeeeekkkkk!

As long as you're sensible about things like cutting up grapes and cherry tomatoes then there's no reason to not give an 8 month old baby finger food. It's always worth doing a basic first aid course so you know what to do if a baby chokes too :)

YABU But I was exactly the same. DS in 9 months and I still watch him like a helipcopter hawk - it is scary

But be sensible, try not to let him see you are worried and remember it is normal for the to gag and the gag reflex is much further forward in a baby than an adult for thier protection

It is irrational but I think it is a normal worry.

I will virtually hold you hand as I know just how you feel :)

You will look back when he is 18 and wolfing down food and smile :)

That's probably the most ridiculous thing about it, I was a first aider at work and did paediatric first aid course... As well as looking after and weaning peoples babies as part of my job!

It doesn't help my ds is a comedian at the dinner table pulling faces and shaking his head from side to side!

Forget a night nurse I want someone to come and 'lump feed' while I hide in another room.
