To think this woman should have stayed at home...

...yesterday and today.

I've just been to the shop. Woman walks in with two young children. Another woman says hello and asks how she is.

First woman then says that she was in A & E all day yesterday and they think she has gastro-enteritis!

So she went to the hospital with it and now she's out and about?

WTAF?

YABU. She could have been a single mum, no one to help her and desperately in need of some shopping.

But I'm sure you'll now drip feed that she was in fact only buying fags and lottery tickets so it wasn't a necessary outing Grin.

I had to go out when i had swine flu beacuse my then DP woudnt go get my medication. So i can understand her problem.

usualsuspect · 18/08/2012 11:20

Maybe she had no choice.

usualsuspect · 18/08/2012 11:21

Perhaps she should have had a bell and shouted 'unclean'

Sparklingbrook · 18/08/2012 11:21

The 2 young children still have to eat.

AmberLeaf · 18/08/2012 11:22

She can't have gastro-thingy if she's able to walk to the shops! When I had that I slept in the bathroom!

MoongirlsCat · 18/08/2012 11:23

Sometimes you have no choice. Maybe she had no one to go out for her.

When my DP was unemployed I had to drag myself to work riddled with poorliness.

Bills to pay, etc.

For some people staying at home whilst ill isn't an option.

crashdoll · 18/08/2012 11:25

Online delivery?

CrispyCod · 18/08/2012 11:26

So they said it 'might' be gastro. So maybe it wasn't after all. Perhaps the fresh air did her some good.

Noqontrol · 18/08/2012 11:26

You cant get a same day online delivery. Can you?

BionicEmu · 18/08/2012 12:01

Similar to AmberLeaf, when I had gastro-enteritis I spent 2 days on the toilet with a bucket next to me to.vomit into. I took a pillow in to lean against the bathroom wall and snooze on Blush

I also left the house as I had a Uni exam, and this was confirmed gastro as I had to go to the hospital for iv fluids and a sick certificate for the exam board.

TBH if she needed to go out, she needed to go out. She was obviously well enough to go out, and as long as she washed her hands after going to the toilet I don't see what the problem is.

I was 'interviewed' at work as I was seen in the supermarket when off sick. I pointed out that I was very ill and could barely walk, the person who saw me would have noticed. 2 random people asked me if I needed help.
I also pointed out that as dh was out of the country and my parents were away I had no choice. I unfortunatly fell ill, then ds got it and we ran out of nappies, it was the runs. My cupboards were a bit bare and 2 kids need feeding.
They turn realised how stupid they were being. Not everyone has someone else available to help.
Had I have been clothes shopping in full make up, dancing around they may have had a point.

TurncoatEwok · 18/08/2012 14:05

Agil I was wondering about that - am off sick for a month. Going back in a little while and really I want to try a few trips outside just to get myself ready for work... but can't risk going to town in case someone from work gets the wrong idea. I may still be off sick when DH has an operation, in which case I'll have no choice but to run errands myself. Are there rules about it or is it more of an individual company policy thing?

Sorry for hijack - no idea about gastroenteritis so can't say if YABU or not

Sparklingbrook · 18/08/2012 14:09

If I am ill I still have to do the school run.

AmberLeaf · 18/08/2012 14:29

If I'm that ill I couldn't do the school run!

I've puked all the way to school before when I've had migraine but no way would I go out with a bad tummy!

MadamFolly · 18/08/2012 16:01

Same puds, it took me an hour to make the ten min journey then I had to stand outside the pharmacy cos the pharmacist said I was too infectious to be inside :( glad I dumped the bastard
