I bleed lots. And it gives me dreadful wind. It's amazing evolution has not yet come up with a workable alternative.

I feel the same

I really overheat and feel sick too

its just awful

MrsHoarder · 16/08/2012 17:32

On the countrary: awful periods encourage women to get pregnant (hasn't had one i over a year Grin)

CailinDana · 16/08/2012 17:32

It hear ya. It seems horribly wasteful but for a species that generally only has one offspring at a time the ability to have children all year round (rather than only during specific "on heat" periods) has no doubt contributed to our survival and dominance.

But they suck majorly. My cousin was delighted when she started hers before me and was quite smug about it until I said "so now I can go swimming whenever I want and you can't, I can wear what I want whenever I want and you can't..." She was rather deflated as she hadn't really thought through the inconvenience of it. I cried and cried when mine started - I just didn't want to have to deal with the hassle of it. I've only had about four periods in the last 2 and a bit years due to pregnancy, breastfeeding and a second pregnancy and it's been great.

I also bleed heavily and get terrible wind, and constipation. It just makes me feel like death and I hate that I have to face it every month.

puds11 · 16/08/2012 17:34

I wasn't aware we were supposed to enjoy it Confused

SoleSource · 16/08/2012 17:36

Agnus castus and evening primrose has workwd winders for my period and mood.

Evasmum12 · 16/08/2012 17:38

The depo contraceptive injection stops periods completely.. unless you are TTC obviously..

signet · 16/08/2012 17:38

I agree. More so now that I completed my family several years ago, have been sterilised so definitely won't be having more children. It all just seems so pointless. Several days of heavy bleeding for nothing. And my mood swings...oh my!

reluctanttownie · 16/08/2012 17:39

Hate it. Everything hurts from waist down to ankles. Need to wee all the time. Feel like I don't want to go too far from nice loos where I can change things and freshen up. Love swimming but don't like doing it on period. Feel lightheaded and clumsy. Bloat up like a balloon. Loathe it.

yellowraincoat · 16/08/2012 17:44

Using the mooncup has made my periods so much better. They are shorter (about 3 days) and I don't even really notice I'm having it in the same way.

Still get that really hot feeling and a little bit out of it, but the pain isn't as bad.

ssd · 16/08/2012 17:44

I also get constipation followed next day by ...the opposite

whats that all about?

oh to be a man!!

valiumredhead · 16/08/2012 17:46

I agree yellow the moon cup has made everything much better.

camdancer · 16/08/2012 17:48

YANBU. It sucks. The blood, the mood swings, the cramps. I really want to stop them but then worry what message I'm sending to my DD's. Mirena sounded interesting until a thread on here where people said they were the work of the devil. Same with depo and pretty much any other method of stopping them. I can't complain really as I haven't really had many for 5 years due to pregnancies and breastfeeding, but I'm done with all that now so just have years of it to look forward to.

JollyHockeyStick · 16/08/2012 18:01

I will invest in a mooncup.

I will also be going onto some kind of contraception that removes periods, after DC2 is born (as yet unconceived which is why I can't go on depo now).

I was on depo for years, then on the implant. My body now dislikes the implant so I now bleed while on it.

hiddenhome · 16/08/2012 18:26

I don't mind mine now that I use a mooncup Grin

HibernoCaledonian · 16/08/2012 18:31

ssd - I know the feeling :( Apparently the bowel is very sensitive to changes in hormones. I alternate between drinking pineapple juice and eating bananas for about a week.

Krumbum · 16/08/2012 18:34

Mooncup has made them much easier for me because they hold so much more. Changing tampons so frequently was a nightmare.
I still get horrible pms, long heavy periods, breast pain, cramps and diarrhea Sad
Oh to be my friend whose period lasts 3 days and she uses a single tampon all day!

bruffin · 16/08/2012 18:35

I use a moon cup if anything they git worse, but I dont think it'd mooncup fault. I am perimenopausal and have had endometrial cysts which caused horrible pain, seem to sort itself out had a few years, started missing the odd period which coincided with dd starting hers, the went back to regular but heavy for 3 days.

Now the last two have lasted 18 days and 10. Really heavy. I am 50 next month and just want to finish once and for all.

RubyFakeNails · 16/08/2012 18:35

I was going to post this last night and thought why bother.

You have my sympathies. Today I've eaten pizza and chocolate and nachos like a victim of a famine, I'm ravenous and feel almost possessed until I get my junk fix.

Luckily working from home today so have spent the day on the toilet, its the only thing that makes me feel better as I most certainly do not suffer from constipation. And my periods are so irregular in there behaviour. Last time I could barely tell if I had a period, it was like I'd got a fanny papercut and now its like the fucking Somme.

brighthair · 16/08/2012 18:36

Second (third?) the mooncup
Mine are shorter, lighter and less pain

DorisIsWaiting · 16/08/2012 18:42

Agree about the mooncup, I now largely forget when I'm having a period, less cramps, and much shorter (used to have horrible +++ flow).

bruffin · 16/08/2012 18:50

Wish it would make that much difference to me, I fill a mooncup every 3 or 4 hours.

Krumbum · 16/08/2012 19:02

Bruffin in the first few days I fill my mooncup that much as well. It's still better than tampons though that I had to change even more frequently and leaked much easier.

bruffin · 16/08/2012 19:14

Agree better than tampons, have used the mooncup for about 7 or 8 years, just don't think it has affected anything like pain, flow etc

choccyp1g · 16/08/2012 19:17

Agree entirely OP. The dreadful menopause symptoms are almost worth it, just to not have the periods.

But I don't understand why the mooncup should make the actual symptoms better? And how can it make it shorter, surely you have to lose the same amount of blood over the same length of time, no matter what method you are using to collect it?
