to give up on the hospital until when I come back?

2.5 weeks ago I had some tests in hospital. The person doing the tests told me that an appointment would be made for me to see the consultant to discuss the test results and that this would probably be in 2-3 weeks but I'd get a letter in the post. I verbally said to her that that was good as I was going on holiday in 3 weeks time so would know the results before I went.

As of yesterday I hadn't received anything so I rang the department to query when I might get an appointment and let them know formally about my holiday so they didn't make an appointment for when I was away. I was put on hold for 25 minutes and evidently forgotten about as the first thing the receptionist said when she came back to me was "what was your name?". The receptionist said she couldn't help but would contact someone who could.

30 minutes later I got a call from someone else at the hospital. When I explained what I wanted, she said she couldn't help either and the person who dealt with consultant appointments was out, but would be back today and would call me.

As it is now gone 8 o'clock, I guess I am not getting a call today. I stupidly didn't ask for a phone number for the person who (supposedly) can help, so my only point of contact is the receptionist in the department where I had the test, who can't help anyway.

I am going on holiday on Friday, and am now wondering whether I have the energy to ring the hospital again tomorrow and spend ages - again- explaining what I want. But can guarantee that if I don't I'll be made an appointment for when I'm away, which I'll miss and then be cast in the role of the "bad person who misses appointment and wastes consultant time".

TBH I think you have done everything reasonable to let them know. Go on holiday and deal with it when you come back.

Ring the main hospital number (switchboard) and ask to be put through to the consultants secretary. Ask switchboard to give you the direct number too.

Sorry should explain. Im a ward receptionist, I can't book patients to see the consultants, I have to go through the secretary.
