to be annoyed with housing management company and this EDF bill

We bought a small house in outer London in February and rented it out immediately through the same agent we bought it off. They completed 2 weeks of work and got tenants in.

We have just received a bill for £52 for the two weeks in was being worked on from EDF. There was a small gas leak at the time too. Now, is this a ridiculous amount? Never mind that the agency has just told us now and say there are still bills to come in 6 months later Hmm.

not if there was a gas leak its not. I assume you took meter reads when you bought the house and when the tenants moved in. Is the bill accurate? Or have they estimated it?

FredFredGeorge · 14/08/2012 11:28

Easy to check the meter readings you took and confirm the amount. If you didn't bother taking readings and the fact you're surprised about getting a bill suggests you probably didn't then YABU. If you're unhappy with the agent, get another.

Sounds like you didn't do enough research on your endeavour though.

Worked on? Power drills, sanders, kettle, etc?

Is that gas and electricity? Doesn't seem a ridiculous amount if, as other posters have pointed out, there was a gas leak and power tools involved. Winter too. Did you/agency check meter readings?

We don't live there, so did it all over internet. The agents were the one that we had done all the house searching and buying with and so got a slightly discounted deal and they manage most of the local properties. They are just so useless and everything is opaque, drives me nuts. We won't renew after 2 year contract is up.

We have 2 other properties in other regions where one agent is just brilliant and the other so so. This one has a 'tude and is driving me a little mad as they never answer direct questions and is the most expensive! However, if that seems like a reasonable amount for elec and gas for 2 weeks then I stand corrected as being U!
