novack can you explain the relevance to me also? It fell flat in this house too.:)

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 01:02

It's not over 'til the fat lady sings is a very common phrase.

As in think of this, If you were a child at the opera and you were bored and always asking mama when is to going to be over. You'd be told, ¨not until the fat lady sings¨, as in most opera companies the soprano's were fat or at least had big lungs, and they always sing an aria (a solo) near the end before the invariable dye a tragic death or someone else does and then the curtain falls.

Loved it Smile

Pandemoniaa · 13/08/2012 01:02

So glad to see "Wish You Were Here" made it into the closing ceremony. I was very fearful about getting more of the undead Macca.

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 01:06

That new pixel thign turning the whole stadium into a screen is the new wow factor for the next few years. How do they top that. A whole city covered with that and filmed from the international space station.

TerraNotSoFirma · 13/08/2012 01:09

Ah okay, thank you. :)

HildaHotPants · 13/08/2012 01:12

We totally enjoyed it. Some of it wasn't to our taste but you can't please everyone. Bowie was disappointing, not least for the fact he didn't participate. Was Kate Bush actually there or was it just a recording? We've had our own little party till 1am, playing Oasis' version of I Am The Walrus, God Save The Queen to name a few!

Glad and proud to be British. Well done team GB Smile

oh and hats off to Russell Brand, the show really started for us once he appeared.

It was atrocious apart from the Take That bit forward, thank fucking lord we have the opening ceremony to fall back on which I did quite actually love for some bizarre reason.

They should have spent a few more million on Boyle again.

ddubsgirl · 13/08/2012 04:03

i enjoyed it and hats off to gary barlow for getting up there, not a take that fan but my heart did ache for him-lovvvvvved the who!

I loved it, but we were there!!!

I am not sure how much I would have enjoyed it seeing it on TV, but the atmosphere in the stadium was amazing. Everybody was singing along and dancing. I would have seen more on TV as we were in row 73 (it only went up to 75!), but we had a fantastic time and the dc's will never forget it. Even though they were so tired.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 13/08/2012 09:02

Roger Daltry was always very underrated IMO?
He is amazing...and still has a fine head of hair.

Wish Pink Floyd had been on , but at least we had one of their songs.

Thought Muse were tremendous.

And am just so relieved there was no Macca.

Pixieonthemoor · 13/08/2012 09:12

I LOVED bits and was a bit Hmm at others. Roared with laughter at the Monty Python bit (I mean rollerblading nuns and a kick line of roman legionnaires! Completely bonkers) and really enjoyed Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Taio Cruz with the Bee Gees bit. Made me miss Freddie Mercury terribly, Bryan May is a god and Stomp were great. Loved Take That - thought that Gary Barlow was amazingly brave to appear.

Spice Girls seemed a bit ropey now and poor old VB looked mortified to be there! Who did Emelie Sande bribe to have two bits in both the opening and closing ceremony especially when her top notes were painfully off key????

I kept my fingers crossed that the Rolling Stones might pop up. Am not a fan of their music at all really but they rank alongside the Beatles with regard to importance in British music.
