explain Izzy, please

Bunbaker · 13/08/2012 00:10

I had to google to find out what Izzy was referring to. I doubt very much that people are going to associate The Who with paedophilia.

Lonelylou · 13/08/2012 00:11

Did you mean quadrophenia, instead of paedophillia Izzy

FutTheShuckUp · 13/08/2012 00:11

Where the duck does paedophilia feature in it???

captainhastings · 13/08/2012 00:11

Pete Townshend was cautioned for looking at child porn

Lonelylou · 13/08/2012 00:12

Ahhh

bonnieslilsister · 13/08/2012 00:15

He said he was doing research Hmm

catchafallingstar · 13/08/2012 00:17

2003 Daltry's band mate, Pete Townsend, arrested for looking at child porn sites by UK authorities - claimed it was for research for his own autobiography (allegedly abused as child). Daltry stuck with him.
Townsend chased out of USA and Daltry's solo tours suffered as a result.....

I agree....we're talking about role models here - who picked them??!!!!!!

FutTheShuckUp · 13/08/2012 00:26

Don't think it's so much about being role models as being musical legends over the years

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 13/08/2012 00:36

Well, Pete Townsend aside, I bloody loved it!

Ed Sheeran, Eric Idle, Spice Girls, Take That ...what's not to love?!

Quintessentially British Grin

LordOfThe5Rings · 13/08/2012 00:37

Love how bizarre our opening ceremony was, though :)

WorraLiberty · 13/08/2012 00:39

I loved it too...feel very proud.

But I was gagging for a few more songs to actually sing along to Grin

George Michael could at least have sung a bit of Wham...Wake me up before you Go Go would have been good...and a bit more from Madness!

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 00:41

Townsend was legend and now I know why Victoria Beckham says that the Spice girls really do not need to reform. Shame they missed out the last two words of Freddie Mercury's bit. Most folks on MN love to use that phrase,

WetAugust · 13/08/2012 00:42

The Who redeemed it for me. Roger rocks.

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 00:42

Your right about George Michael he looked sad and alone on that stage and as if he only sang Freedom if they let him sang his latest rubbish as a chance to sell a few records. He'd have been better of with faith.

WorraLiberty · 13/08/2012 00:43

My 9yr old was well impressed with The Who

He said, "Out of all the 'old' people ( Hmm ) this guy can really sing" Grin

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 00:44

Oh and best bit was the fat lady sining with Eric. I bet that joke fell flat on most of the world. I had to explain to my spanish friends as we were watching why I was laughing.

WorraLiberty · 13/08/2012 00:46

It took a while but I got the fat lady in the end!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/08/2012 00:48

I REALLY enjoyed it. It was a party! It was much more entertaining than the opening ceremony. It made me laugh, and cry, and sing, and I was impressed. and believe me, I was NOT keen on the Olympics, before it started!

ohforfoxsake · 13/08/2012 00:48

Pete Townsend cautioned for child porn, Kate Moss caught doing drugs, Naomi Campbell convicted of assault - kind of disappointed that we lost the message of all that was good over the last two weeks by parading them around.the fashion bit was shit - a David Bowie montage, no mention of Stella M but VB (who AFAIA Does most of her work in the US) gets a plug. Worst part of the show for me.

ohforfoxsake · 13/08/2012 00:50

But Gary Barlow showed up and for that alone I applaud him.

The Who were bloody good.

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 00:51

TEAM GB and ADIDAS do QUEEN

Love it.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/08/2012 00:51

Would have liked a bit more Freddie on screen though. I think Robbie leading Queen would have been pretty good, and "we are the Champions" would have been appropriate!

NovackNGood · 13/08/2012 00:53

Well I suppose Gary had to be there as he would not have let Robbie take the stage instead of him and the rest of Take that can't sing.

Whatmeworry · 13/08/2012 00:55

Apart from the 80's has-beens it was good. The Who were a masterstroke.
