Our family of four have been being bitten for the last six months by bugs in our house that we never saw. Really painful horrible bites. Itchy all the time, despite repeated deep cleaning and fumigation. Six months down the line I finally found a tiny insect in my son's bed and had it identified as a bird or rodent mite. Waiting for a mite specialist to identify it 100%. Then hopefully we will be able to get to house treated and be rid of this horrible pest.

But searching for information on the internet brings up all manner of scary posts by people who have been infested with mites for years and can never get rid of them. It's horrific. look at www.birdmites.org..

Every pest control person that I speak to says it impossible for them to live off a human host and that they can't actually infest you. That if you kill the rodents or birds they live off then they will die too. But so many people have posted on different sites about how they have adapted to live off human blood, and they infest you internally and are impossible to get rid of from your possessions and body. Just google bird mites and see. Even if you move, you take them with you.

So very stressed and scared..

I'd listen to the professionals rather than internet strangers. Science before strangers. Always.

I would be very Hmm at the birdmites.org website. I can see no evidence that its information comes from any authoritative source. (And the Biblical quotes don't really help!) Professional pest controllers have already reassured you that they can't live off you - they'll just test-bite you (and annoy you!) I'd personally believe the professionals over any number of nutters contributors to unverified websites.

I know this is an old thread but I'm wondering if the OP is still around and could tell us how this resolved.
We have a bird or rodent mite infection in our house and the pest control people we have spoken to are keen to just spray the entire house.
There is a lot of conflicting information on the internet and we are trying to talk to people who have actual experience of this situation.
