To think that the fact that the closing ceremony is starting in half an hour means that....

.... the Olympics are effectively over?

And that the fact that the Paralympics have an opening ceremony in a couple of weeks means that they are a separate, but related, event?

I've just seen someone I know sound off (on Facebook, where else!) saying that he is fed up with people going on about the Olympics being over, as the Paralympics haven't been yet.

They are separate things.

alphabite · 12/08/2012 20:51

I know. I had the same thing on fb. They were moaning about a lack of paralympic coverage. I did have to point out they hadn't even started yet!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 12/08/2012 20:51

They are separate :) Olympics are almost over but we can celebrate anew in a couple of weeks.

MadgeHarvey · 12/08/2012 20:52

You short on things to worry about OP?

SauvignonBlanche · 12/08/2012 20:52

They are 2 separate events.

StopEatingThatMud · 12/08/2012 20:53

I had a moan about the same thing earlier to be honest, until DP pointed out they are separate.

I do hope Channel 4 do a good job with the coverage.

Kayano · 12/08/2012 20:53

They are separate Confused

JeezyPeeps · 12/08/2012 20:54

Gosh, did I give the impression I was worried? Apologies, I was just curious about others opinions on the matter. Not worried about it at all, to be honest.

Yep, the Olympics are organised by a Swiss based organisation, the paralympics are organised by a German based organisation. They do work together but are totally seperate organisations.

JeezyPeeps · 12/08/2012 20:55

StopEating, I agree. There's no way it will be as good as the BBC's comprehensive coverage of the Olympics, sadly.

Kladdaka, that's interesting, I didn't know that!

The BBC have been amazing!

StopEatingThatMud · 12/08/2012 20:59

I'm inclined to agree, which is such a shame given the (in my opinion anyway) fab job the BBC has done.

I feel like I've never really noticed the paralympics, you know. I hope it doesn't get sort of forgotten about and gets the attention it deserves.

Kayano · 12/08/2012 21:17

I think the Paralympics are great and I'm excited I can watch more this time (on may leave)

I will admit to finding them hard to follow at times with the different winners (like third place can win due to level of disability) and am looking forward to learning more about it do I can figure it out for myself and not rely on the commentators lol
