to think this woman was rude to my DSs and not the other way around??

I took my DSs (7 and 5) and their friend who is 6 to the local park, and they were really keen to go to McDonalds on the way back so my DS1 shouted 'MCDONALDS' very loudly on the way back to the car. There was a woman, probably in her twenties, sitting in the car reading and she did look up and give DS a strange look (she had the windows open.) This prompted my other DS and their friend to all keep shouting MCDONALDS as I was fumbling around, putting their bags in and so on.

As I was driving off there was quite a long queue of traffic at the lights s we were sort of parallel with this woman's car and my DSs and their friend started shouting MCDONALDS again through the open windows to this woman who had been giving them dirty looks as they were shouting and this time she put her book down and looked at me and said in really terse tones "can't you keep those children under control?"

AIBU to think she was the one being rude? She was parked next to a children's play park and leisure centre and I assumed she was waiting for somebody but if she wanted peace and quiet there were better places to wait? I accept my children shouldn't have been shouting AT her but then they wouldn't have if she hadn't given them a funny look to start with!

yes amazing bouncnig ferret. I was in the doctors last week. Woman gives her kid a full sugar coke. 10 minutes later the kid is running round like a mental case and she's screaming at him to calm down. If you feed your kids shit like mcdonalds then they're not going to turn out to be well mannered children with all the shit that's in there!

songbird33 · 13/08/2012 00:12

ah, but they hadn't had McDonalds at this point, we were driving there. Perhaps it was the Red Bull and chocolate I fed them for breakfast do you think? Wink

OP, you have my utmost sympathy. Should have donned your hardhat before you posted.

EduStudent · 13/08/2012 01:17

Oh fgs, booomy, McDonalds isn't the worst food out there. There's an awful lot more to a child's behaviour than the odd McFlurry Hmm

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 13/08/2012 01:23

havent read whole thread yet, but OP I find what happened quite comical, she was irked by your kids for being kids, she got upity and they responded as only kids can. I would have been laughing inside if i where you. some times its O.K to mock those who iritate far too easily.

now Im going to read and see what sort of flaiming you got as Im pretty sure thye holier than thou wouldn have been all over you.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 13/08/2012 01:32

I would not have cancelled the swimming lesson.

helibee · 13/08/2012 02:17

Don't let their dad tell them that he's disappointed in their behaviour too. You dealt with it on behalf of both of you and it's over and done with now. Hope you have a better day tomorrow and that your dh recovers quickly Smile

yousankmybattleship · 13/08/2012 02:41

Your children are very rude. HTH.

sashh · 13/08/2012 03:32

Your children are incredibly rude.

I bet you actually took them for a MaccyD didn't you?

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 13/08/2012 03:54

Well hope you're happy OP, I now have the voice of some random kid screaming MCDONALDS! in my head over and over over. Grin

Good on you for being so gracious, I'd make sure they didn't get a fast food treat in quite awhile.

Hope your hubby makes a speedy recovery. Thanks

CheerMum · 13/08/2012 07:25

God, I really want a McDonalds for brekkie now

AmazingBouncingFerret · 13/08/2012 08:19

Well it certainly made my sister and me chuckle.

I honestly would of of just smiled to myself and assumed they were just very excited for their mcdonalds. TheEnthusiasticTroll said it better than I could..

And booomy I'm not sure how you made the link between some random you saw letting her child drink coke at the doctors to all children who eat mcdonalds are soon to be delinquents but I can see you're enjoying yourself up there. Smile

Cheermum, me too. Sad

seeker · 13/08/2012 08:26

It doesn't actually matter what the kids were shouting- it could have been "hummus and grissini!" they were shouting at somebody rudely and continuously and you didn't stop them. I can't believe anyone thinks this is acceptable.

theodorakis · 13/08/2012 08:38

I think she was a bit rude. other people's kids can be irritating but they were not exactly running around knocking into her or making personal remarks. I would have driven off and found somewhere quieter to sit. I may have even been tempted to enter into it and shout BURGER KING back.

seeker · 13/08/2012 08:40

They were shouting at her through the open car window! On what planet was she rudento object?

YouOldSlag · 13/08/2012 08:42

Well OP, I have 2 DSs and I would not have let them shout like that, and I don't think the woman was being rude. However, you have come on here to ask for opinions, taken them on board and followed the general gist of opinion.

Well done, that takes guts. Nicely handled.

Ignore the crap about Mcdonalds and shit like this "I would have been laughing inside if i where you. some times its O.K to mock those who iritate far too easily.",

theodorakis · 13/08/2012 08:43

Yeah, I would definitely have shouted back! I am not a great fan of free range lentil weaver's children who are expressing themselves when pouring salt onto the plates of other diners in a pub etc but, they were just excited kids. I love so much that they were shouting McDonalds, brave OP for not changing it to "organic sugar free mush"

Kayano · 13/08/2012 08:44

Is this actually a joke ?

EugenesAxe · 13/08/2012 08:45

No, I think your children were rude.

By not reprimanding the shouting you were effectively teaching them that it's OK to have a lack of respect for older people and that it's OK to lay into someone who's annoyed you in any way.

Birdsgottafly · 13/08/2012 08:47

I hate these threads, they always make me want a McChicken sandwich (food of the Gods smiley).

samandi · 13/08/2012 08:53

Your kids sound like scummy chav hooligans. If you didn't stop or reprimand them I can see why she questioned your capability as a parent.

theodorakis · 13/08/2012 08:56

samandi, call people names by all means but not their children.

samandi · 13/08/2012 09:00

theodorakis - I'll call people's children what I like thanks.

I wonder if some people are just reading the first post and not any of the subsequent ones?
