to think my husband is crazy (holiday related)

After spending hours in the travel agents back in January trying to book a holiday for 10 days to Ibiza we settled on 7 days as nothing was available for 10.
Now my DP has casually said 'we'll just extend the holiday and rearrange our flights when we get there'.
Much as I would love this to be possible I have never heard of anyone doing this on a package holiday.
Because he travels a lot with work and changes flights regularly he thinks it would be possible.
Is he nuts?

I don't see why not. I see it all the time on Luton Airport and the like. People just miss and then book a later one. Accomodation would worry me at peak season though.

He may be slightly unrealistic, yes. Grin

I am sure at the very least you'll be able to check out of your hotel and find somewhere to stay for the extra 3 days and pay to get different flights. So if money isn't a problem then just see how it goes.

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 21:35

I very much doubt that you will be able to stay on at your chosen hotel. In April you probably could, but not at the height of the season.

And it may not be as simple as changing the flights either. You will probably forfeit your current flights and have to pay a premium for the new ones. Business seats on scheduled flights are totally different to the chartered flights you get for package holidays.

Tell him good luck with that, but you dont plan to spend 7 days on holiday trying to get an extra 3 days there!

Exactly BF. Don't want to waste valuable time trying to sort out new flights etc so need to convince him to forget it really. Also could afford some extra but not loads on completely new flights for 4 of us.

I done it in Turkey at the height of the season, you cannot bank on it but it's possible, on a package, i paid a suppliment, to change flights. I had friends do it in Cyprus, both were on Thompson flights.

All the hotel owners know each other and ask around, make it known that, that is your intention when you get there.

But as bogey said, try but don't make it the focus of your holiday.

Birdsgottafly · 10/08/2012 21:48

If you are going with children, i wouldn't go to the effort, tbh.

eurochick · 10/08/2012 21:52

Hmm, it might be possible but it would probably be a lot of hassle. In that situation I would go away for 7 days and then use the other 3 to have some days out at home - zoo, theme park, local sights, that sort of thing. It would be a nice transition from foreign holiday to back to work.

happyclapper · 10/08/2012 21:59

BGF that sounds promising that it is possible but I think you are right, might not be worth the hassle but may put the feelers out when we get there but not waste time on it.
EC that's exactly what I said. Sounds much more sensible option. Think we may spend a few days in London.
