new 5p and 10p coins not accepted in parking meters

My local council carparks now have labels stating they won't accept new 5p and 10p coins, it's really annoying as often I don't have extra 'old' coins to use instead. Apparently these are new thicker steel-based coins introduced in Jan'12 as cheaper to produce BUT meters would need retrofitting which of course the council won't do.
Plus the nickel coating is possibly a dermatitis issue? though not seen this myself.
Anyone else seeing this?

Well I do not drive, but vending machines are the same. It is a pita.

Yanbu I didn't even realise these coins had been changed!

I'm amazed you still have coin parking meters - we have mobile phones and it pisses me off greatly.

Oh no, what a pain!

I'm allergic to nickel but tbh handling a bit of cash isn't going to set it off - I'd need to be gripping it in my sweaty little paw for several hours before I got itchy.

It's just another way of ripping people off. It's the same in my home town, 80p for 30 minutes but no 10p or 5p coins so the chances are you won't have 4x 20p coins and will have to put in £1 and obviously they don't give change.
