Donned a cap and a pair of track suit bottoms and tried talk all manly like, you'd realise?

I'm just watching the programme The Girl Who Became 3 Boys and I'm gobsmacked.

Basically Gemma, Jessica and Alice are friends.

Gemma creates a fake profile on Facebook and becomes Luke. Gemma, cleverly disguised Hmm as Luke meets up with Alice and they have a relationship.

Gemma then creates a new profile, this becomes Aaron. Aaron meets up with Jessica and they have kisses and cuddles etc.
But Jessica doesn't like Aaron enough, so Lo and behold Cona is born!
gemma creates another profile as this Cona, and meets up with Jessica, apparently Jessica doesn't realise
Neither Jessica or Alice realise at any point that Gemma, Cona, Aaron and Luke are the same!!! They had even had sex!!

I haven't explained it too well but here's the story and I recommended anyone watches it on 4od

But seriously, is it that unreasonable for me to think I wouldn't be tricked this easily?? Even when I was their age

It makes me wonder if everyone who has been abused is exempt from being called idiotic?

They behaved in an idiotic manner. If there's proof that they have mental problems that affected their decisions then show me it and I'll retract my statement.

And people can talk about vulnerable young girls until the cows come home, being vulnerable does not make you stupid and blind. It might make you more susceptible to grooming etc, but it doesn't stop those alarm bells from ringing once the facts begin to add up.

'Aaron became abusive and would hit me. The next day he'd say it was Luke or Cona dressed as him to get him into trouble'

Thats just ONE example.

I was particularly streetwise as a teen and wouldn't expect someone to be like I was, but I'd expect them to act like they at least had half a brain.

Spectacularly missing the point there Ghost....

FrillyMilly · 09/08/2012 21:56

When someone is groomed for abuse they are chosen for a reason.

solidgoldbrass · 09/08/2012 22:37

Look, teenagers of 14 or 15 are never all that socially skilled or worldy wise anyway; nowhere near as smart as they think they are. They are still kids, on the whole. If they are underconfident, not very clever, isolated, with parents who don't pay that much attention to them, or indeed a dysfunctional home life, they are going to be easy meat for anyone who is nice to them even only part of the time.

GhostShip · 09/08/2012 22:40

Not being able to realise Aaron, Luke, And Cona were the same person is the stupid thing, not even mentioning the fact that they were all Gemma.

She wasn't a sodding master of disguise.

The parents who had met Gemma where also taken in by the disguises though weren't they?

GhostShip · 09/08/2012 22:53

The parents didn't seem them frequently, the parents weren't the ones in a relationship.

The parents didn't really seem to know much to be fair.
