Induction dh gone home to watch the Olympics

I sent dh home 2 hrs ago to get some more essentials to add to my other two maternity bags. I am being induced and nothing is happening but I think he's gone to watch the Olympics. I told him to rest up & have some food but he's going a bit far. We only live 10 mins away from the hospital & he's been gone 2 hrs! I think I was being very reasonable by letting him go but if he is watching the Olympics I won't be best pleased. Is he being unreasonable?

Or rather Cuntsnet.

Lovelynewboots · 08/08/2012 15:41

When I had my first, the world cup was on and the ward was bereft of husbands when England were playing. I am guessing you are busy with giving birth now sunshine, good luck and all that. I was lurking on this thread, just want to know when you have the baby now Smile

Sprogged · 08/08/2012 16:06

To steal a quote from the good insults thread GetOrfMoiRing, it doesn't always have the depth and warmth...

Op said other ds at home, so wondering if it's a boy they're having. Wonder how it's all going.

needsomesunshine · 08/08/2012 16:17

Thanks for all the nice comments. Im still here, still contracting, still waiting. I was induced ystdy but still only 2cm dilated & abs knackered. Labour ward is full & that's the only place with pain relief so just tens machine & paracetamol for me.Sad

Hello Sunshine, still waiting then? Are you still on the gel?

needsomesunshine · 08/08/2012 16:30

Still waiting sprogged. They only gave me one dose as I started to contract straight away but I'm not dilating

Hope it all starts moving for you soon Sunshine. Make sure they check you before they give you the strong stuff, they gave me pethidine after 7 hours of begging - then found I was 9cm Confused, so probably wasn't a good idea to slow it all down again.

Sprogged · 08/08/2012 17:01

Not that there's anything wrong with pain relief, ohmygawd the epidural was looooovely when they finally gave me the bloody thing :)

Flisspaps · 08/08/2012 17:08

I'm Hmm at your hospital encouraging overnight inductions, and for your MWs comments. In fact, I am appalled by your MW - why on earth would you not encourage a woman to sleep as much as physically possible before labour starts?!

NICE guidelines recommend induction doesn't take place at night as it increases maternal dissatisfaction and increases intervention rates - probably because by the time that you get to second stage, you're already too fucking knackered to push because you've been up all night.

GetOrfMoiRing · 08/08/2012 17:35

I agree actually - why would you want someone to be induced through the night. Madness.

I hope it all kicks off soon!

grobagsforever · 08/08/2012 19:52

Very pleased to hear Mr Sunshine can sleep in chairs. Skillz. Thinking of you OP!

ILiveInAPineapple · 08/08/2012 20:03

I hope the baby arrives soon!

Fwiw, I was induced at 3pm one day, I was already 3cm when she examined me, but for some bizarre reason they gave me the gel instead of breaking my waters, and started contracting right away and boy did it hurt, it went from nothing to full on in the space of 30 mins, but there were no beds on the delivery suite, so ended up on the AN ward overnight with my DH sleeping on a plastic chair next to me. No way in hell was I letting him go home, I just felt too vulnerable! DS was not born until 30 hours after the contractions started, we were both exhausted but I could not have managed without my DH.

Op YANBU, and I hope baby arrives soon!

LordOfThe5Rings · 08/08/2012 20:13

Ano news means good news I hope, OP!

NicholasTeakozy · 08/08/2012 20:57

Fingers crossed OP. Hope all goes well.

GetOrfMoiRing · 08/08/2012 22:33

Hope all is well sunshine.

needsomesunshine · 09/08/2012 09:16

Hi all. Had my baby boy at 2am, 31hrs after induction. I stayed 2cm for 22hrs! Despite the gel & 2 sweeps Sad with regular contractions but no pain reliefSad. My hospital have 2 silly policies- they leave you to it if you are induced & start contracting until you get to 4 cm, no matter how long that takes & you can only have paracetamol & pethadine until you get to the labour ward. After 22hrs I couldn't wait to get on the gas & air. Was totally exhausted then had every drug available!
dh was there mostly the whole timeSmile & is still here which is great. Didn't have to go home again so he's been stuck with me until I get discharged later today.
Thanks for all the well wishers.x

Well done, and I am sorry that you had such a lengthy old time with FUCKING paracetamol.

You must be so tired, but it was lovely that DH was there the whole time. Hopefully you get out soon and then you can both go home to your own comfortable house and bed to watch the olympics.

Well done, and congratulations on your new baby boy. What is his name? I hope you have rest when you get home. Thanks

daylily · 09/08/2012 09:20

Congratulations!

BeaWheesht · 09/08/2012 09:34

Congratulations!

GetOrfMoiRing · 09/08/2012 09:38

Why do they give you paracetamol when you are in labour? I must say it was all a bit quick when I had dd.

I think I would scream very loudly if someone offered me 2 paracetamol when in labour.

If I ever had another baby I would take my own strong painkillers in.

ChaoticismyLife · 09/08/2012 10:12

Congratulations sunshine :)

NicholasTeakozy · 09/08/2012 10:28

Hurray! And booooo! for no proper pain relief.

maras2 · 09/08/2012 12:37

Congratulations from me too. Mx.

bogeyface · 09/08/2012 12:44

:):)

Huge congratulations :)

And what a stupid set up they have! Perhaps when you are feeling better you could raise it with the hospital? I did that with an issue after my third birth and they did change one of the protocols because of it!
