Have just found out that someone has been convicted of pocession of unsavory photos but a lot of my friends intend to beat this man up. But surely this Will drive this sort of stuff further underground. And also his family are innocent and don't deserve further trouble. I just don't see how my friends behaviour makes anything better.

Your friends are thick louts.

Portofino · 07/08/2012 08:35

What Pag said.

Gigondas · 07/08/2012 08:35

Yanbu - what is point in justice system if people decide to become vigilantes

MrsKeithRichards · 07/08/2012 08:35

Your friends are acting like idiots.

JumpingThroughHoops · 07/08/2012 08:36

Vigilantes are dangerous people

pumpkinsweetie · 07/08/2012 08:37

Your friends are right in thinking it, but they will end up in more trouble than the peadophile himself if they actually do it unfortunetely.

Sirzy · 07/08/2012 08:39

They need to let the legal system deal with him, two wrongs don't make a right

LynetteScavo · 07/08/2012 08:41

I think you need some new friends.

AmberLeaf · 07/08/2012 08:42

How do they know what he was convicted of?

crystaldash · 07/08/2012 08:44

Thanks to everyone i thought i was going soft. I just don't see how this makes anything better. Btw they are not close friends, just people i know.

OP posts:
crystaldash · 07/08/2012 08:45

amber it was in the local paper

insertsomethingwitty · 07/08/2012 08:47

Your friends will likely get in more trouble than he is. If the conviction was recent the man will likely have a public protection officer working with him, to help keep the public, but also him safe from idiots like your friends.

MadgeHarvey · 07/08/2012 08:47

Well buggering well report the intended actions of your 'friends' to the Police then. Bloody hell.

insertsomethingwitty · 07/08/2012 08:48

Yes definitely report, especially if this man is still living with his family.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 07/08/2012 08:50

I do not agree with beating him up. People who do that sort of thing are usually do it because they like beating people up rather than because they want justice.
However this photos are not unsavoury are they?
They are pornographic photographs of real children being raped and abused.

mellen · 07/08/2012 08:52

There is a system in place to deal with this sort of thing, we dont need some random bunch of people making their own decisions on punishment.

bluebus · 07/08/2012 08:52

Hi OP, can I just gently point out they are not 'unsavory photos', they are images of child abuse, using euphemisms sanitises the issue and detracts away from the real issue which is the sexual abuse of children. I agree YANBU to be concerned by vigilante action, its a terrible way to behave in a civilised society.

crystaldash · 07/08/2012 08:55

I said unsavory because i don't know the actual content (neither does anyone else)

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 07/08/2012 08:57

If he has been prosecuted then they are images of child abuse.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 07/08/2012 08:57

Two wrongs dint make a right!! Violence is still a crime and lowering yourself to that level doesn't make you any better than the person they are beating up! The crime is dispicable but isn't gonna help anyone if tour friends go taking law into their own hands and in fact could help reduce his sentence not to mention gain him police protection and all that lot :(

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 07/08/2012 08:58

But they are sexual photos of children?

TheHamish · 07/08/2012 09:02

Idiots. Report them to the police.

The ex boyfriend of a friend of mine and his mates beat up a suspected paedophile about 13 years ago. The man died of his injuries. They got life.

bluebus · 07/08/2012 09:15

You called him a paedophile so you must know the nature of the photos OP?

TroublesomeEx · 07/08/2012 09:24

Two wrongs don't make a right.

We recently found something similar out about someone we know through the proper channels. We are bound to secrecy over it.

The desire to shout it from the rooftops and warn everyone they come into contact with who has children is incredibly strong. But we can't do it. We can protect our children and that is all.

It's important that we don't tell anyone because if he suffered as a result, the law we used might be revoked and then no one will ever be able to find this information out. It's a tough one to take, but I can see the point.

Your friends are idiots.
