To think £52 was a bit steep for lunch at Zizzi?

We had 2 starters and 2 mains and a bottle of sparkling water. DS (22mo) had a kid's meal for £6.50. I thought it was a bit steep. We eat out a fair bit and this was more expensive than other places we usually eat, but the service certainly seemed below par and slow as well.

Grin quite mild, as rants go.

Sounds reasonable to me, if the food was fresh, good quality stuff.

Poor service would have left them tipless, of course, but the price of the food doesn't seem that much.

i think most people only go there with two for one vouchers or clubcard vouchers that type of thing

what did you have then?

LadySybildeChocolate · 05/08/2012 17:16

Is your phone with 02? They have priority moments for Zizzi so you could have had a discount. The last time I used it I took ds to Pizza Hut. We had loads to eat, a glass of wine and free coke refills, and it cost £10! Zizzi can be expensive, it depends on what you eat though.

kinkyfuckery · 05/08/2012 17:17

Did they have the prices on the menu when you ordered?

slatternlymother · 05/08/2012 17:17

We eat out quite a lot; we ate at a lovely cafe in a new park yesterday and DS got a lovely locally sourced handmade burger and sautéed potatoes with a side salad and apple juice for £5, I had a Greek salad and DH had a panini and we had drinks too, and it think DH took a packet of crisps as well because he liked the look of them. It came to £23 and it was lovely and the service was fab.

Yes; loads of promotional offers for Zizzi.

Dprince · 05/08/2012 17:18

I assume the prices were on the menu.

ValiumQueen · 05/08/2012 17:18

Did you not look at the menu before you ordered? I think YABU as you chose to go in there. Was it nice though? Never even heard of it. What did you have??

AngryFeet · 05/08/2012 17:18

Ours is usually about that with 2 DC. We don't go there much. Can get much better value at Harvester Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/08/2012 17:18

It sounds steep for Zizzi, which isn't particularly great food.

We've been to a lovely restaurant for lunch and had steak and venison, and DS2 had some really lovely chicken, plus drinks. £43 for 3 of us.

AngryFeet · 05/08/2012 17:19

Well a meal at a cafe with sarnies is slightly different from a 2 course meal at a restaurant!

whiteandyelloworchid · 05/08/2012 17:19

i like subway, me and dd share a tuna salad sub, she has a water i have a coke for 3 pounds for both of us.

we get a nice seat int he window, i get some crsips ot of my bag.

lunch out for us two for 3 quid Grin

slatternlymother · 05/08/2012 17:20

Yes they did have the prices, but it seemed quite reasonable. Just a few things at seemingly small prices like £3.95 or whatever add up. I wasn't really switched on tbh. The food wasn't really that special. I had breadsticks to start and DH had cheesy garlic bread, then we both had pizza for main. The starters were MASSIVE THOUGH. Utterly huge and could've constituted a meal on their own. I saw a lot of people being given huge portions and having to leave half.

kinkyfuckery · 05/08/2012 17:22

If the prices were clearly marked, YABU. It was your choice to buy them, or not.

slatternlymother · 05/08/2012 17:22

Well I say cafe, it is more of a restaurant really, it just has a cafe 'daytime' section. The quality of the food was great too, really lovely. I suppose I was spoiled yesterday!

OP posts:
slatternlymother · 05/08/2012 17:23

Yes i know it was our choice to go in there, I just thought it seemed expensive, that was all.

OP posts:
ValiumQueen · 05/08/2012 17:24

YADefinitelyBU then, as you should at least have added it up before you ordered, or left if it was too expensive.

If you had said 'AIBU to think £52 was a bit steep for lunch?' them I would say YANBU, but naming specific eatery suggests that usually it would be cheaper, which it appears it would not.

slatternlymother · 05/08/2012 17:29

I was just taken aback as what we had in similar restaurants at lunch; Ask, Pizza Express etc is usually not as much. That is all.
