To think £52 was a bit steep for lunch at Zizzi?

We had 2 starters and 2 mains and a bottle of sparkling water. DS (22mo) had a kid's meal for £6.50. I thought it was a bit steep. We eat out a fair bit and this was more expensive than other places we usually eat, but the service certainly seemed below par and slow as well.

Restaurants like this drive me up the wall. Just charge a fair price please. Don't faff around with vouchers for people in the know and charge the others through the roof. I find it really stressful to know that the price on the menu is the "mug's price". ( an upfront special midweek lunchtime deal or whatever to fill tables at quiet times is different, I don't mind that)

I agree, just charge a fair price. Same as 2 for 1 offers in supermarkets.
I think they're mad these restaurants doing vouchers, not only will it reduce profits in the short term it will lead to resentment from those that have paid full price.

I will not go to pizza express without a voucher, so even if I was out and wanted to go I probably wouldn't without a voucher because I would feel ripped off.

It also massively cheapens the brand. I predict that long term it will be the end of these chains.

LizzieMint73 · 05/08/2012 21:30

Hate hate hate all the voucher BOGOF nonsense. Pizza restaurants are the worst IMHO. Dominos 15 quid for a pizza wtf!!. This is why I almost never eat out.

I was astonished when DP and I went to a local thai restaurant recently - starters mains and a couple of beers each and it came to very nearly 50 quid!

I don't mind cooking and am quite good at it so have to go to a good quality non chain restaurant to get something better than I can make myslelf and TBH CBA with the faff of going out so either do the cooking or get fish + chips/M+S or waitrose meal deals.

lapsedorienteerer · 05/08/2012 21:32

Why not check the menu prices before you go.......????

whiteandyelloworchid · 05/08/2012 21:41

allalonenow, hmm which one is best out of ask or zizzi?

pretty much the same tbh.

i would go for the one with the best offer tbh lol

if both offers the same, maybe just slightly ask.

which town are you visiting?

Northernlurker · 05/08/2012 21:44

So about £45 for two courses for two and no booze? I think that's quite a bit but eating out is expensive now. We spent £35 in Ask a couple of weeks ago - just dh and I, two mains, 1 pudding (me), 1 glass of wine (him) and 2 soft drinks.

whiteandyelloworchid · 05/08/2012 21:45

i'm looking for ideas of things to do with dd over the holidays.
on mse theres a kids eat free with adults offer, so if i had lasagne and salad about 9.50 i think, dd can have a nice meal, drink and dessert.
i would have a large coke, so guess it would cost about 9.50 plus a coke, what that about two pounds, so 11.50.

that would make a nice lunch out for me and ddSmile

BigHairyFlowers · 05/08/2012 21:46

I would say you were BU to want to eat somewhere named after the french for penis.

But that might be missing the point?

louisianablue2000 · 05/08/2012 21:58

We had a similar experience at Pizza Express, a lunch for the two of us plus two children was much more than I was expecting it to be thanks to all the extras. Will be thinking about that more carefully next time we go. And our local Pizza Express have less than perfect waiting staff (the guys making the pizzas are wonderful though and are great about entertaining the kids) which doesn't help.

We prefer to go to the good local cafes or Wagamamas where you get more for your money IMHO (or is that just because we got free icecreams due to DD2 divebombing off the benches?).

SardineQueen · 06/08/2012 10:13

I was told zizzi was french slang for having a wank.

But I agree that is beside the point!

I agree with lady sybill check your receipt. that does sound too much for a couple of pizzas, starters and a kids meal.

suburbandream · 06/08/2012 13:55

BigHairyFlowers is right, Zizzi is the French equivalent of "willy" used by kids. I was an au pair many moons ago and when I returned to the UK Zizzi had just been introduced over here. Always used to make me snigger but I am much more mature now Grin

StunningCunt · 06/08/2012 13:58

These restaurants are pretty shit tbh. Not sure why you would go. Just stick with a takeaway or go to a proper restaurant.
