To think £52 was a bit steep for lunch at Zizzi?

We had 2 starters and 2 mains and a bottle of sparkling water. DS (22mo) had a kid's meal for £6.50. I thought it was a bit steep. We eat out a fair bit and this was more expensive than other places we usually eat, but the service certainly seemed below par and slow as well.

ilovesooty ~ where would I find Zizzi and similar promotions please? Is there a reliable website offering vouchers?

Doesn't sound too bad tbh especially if the portion size was generous.

Dprince · 05/08/2012 17:44

Yabu. The prices were clear, you just didn't keep track of what you were spending.
as its a place that does a lot of offers, their 'usual price' will be high so they still make profit when meals are on offer.

SardineQueen · 05/08/2012 17:47

No booze?
That does sound pricey
However the prices were there so it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise!

kelly14 · 05/08/2012 18:07

never heard of it, but dont think its expensive for what u had.
i am used to dubai and sydney prices though so nothing shocks me, as meals there are typically a least £80-100 per person.

RubyFakeNails · 05/08/2012 18:10

Prices are on the menu, although a few days ago I went to Zizzis with a friend, both had 3 courses with wine and it didn't come to that, did you check the bill, or have particularly expensive options?

Allalonenow · 05/08/2012 18:24

Thank you whiteandyellow, I will !!

slatternlymother · 05/08/2012 18:26

Oh wow thanks whiteandyelloworchid

Yes probably shouldve kept an eye on the price etc, just felt like we didn't have hugely expensive stuff but there we are Smile

They don't charge what they can get away with....how ridiculous.

Most restaurants work on a basis of a food margin of around 60% - 70% profit. It's more or less standard across the industry for these types of restaurants. That profit has to pay for staff minimum wages, chefs, plus management and head office, it has to pay for rent, rates, utilities, wastage, plates, toilet rolls, cleaners etc etc and pay back the capital costs of the furnture IT systems etc.

Most restaurants go under within the first year and when you look at the costs a restaurant incurs just to get a pizza on a plate you can see why.

ilovesooty · 05/08/2012 18:41

If you google Zizzi discounts you'll get a whole page of offers up.

GhostShip · 05/08/2012 18:45

Doesn't sound bad for 2 2 course meals and a kids meal to be fair

ThreeWheelsGood · 05/08/2012 18:55

Of the Italian chain restaurants I've always found zizzi overpriced, the food isn't as tasty/quality as the menu sounds. definitely only go to chains with a voucher, i always look on moneysavingexpert.com - even on my phone while in the restaurant! consider it a lesson learned :-)

suburbandream · 05/08/2012 18:58

Zizzi, Pizza Express, Ask and the like almost always have special offers - go to their individual websites and register and you will be inundated with emails for all their deals!! There are other websites like vouchercodes etc which have the offers. YANBU - I never pay the proper price if I can help it Grin

whiteandyelloworchid · 05/08/2012 19:04

thats okSmile hope it helps

also if you collect clubcard points you can use them in ask, pizza express strada etc

we usually convert 7.50worth of cc vouchers, for a 30 pound reward voucher.
this works out just right for me dh and dd, as main meals are around 1o pounds so two of them, plus kids meal about 6 pounds then a dessert to share about 4-5 pounds, works out to 30/31 pounds

as you can only use tesco reward vouchers on food not drink.

so then we pay the remainder for the drinks in cash Smile

Allalonenow · 05/08/2012 19:18

I'll be visiting a town soon that has both a Zizzi and an Ask, so which would you recommend whiteandyellow ?

Shutupanddrive · 05/08/2012 19:47

Yab a bit u. If you wanted pizza why not go to pizza hut/express instead? Also the prices are on the menu so it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise when the bill came. Hope you enjoyed it anyway

maras2 · 05/08/2012 20:05

More money than sense if you aren't 'switched on' enough to read the tariff.

LadySybildeChocolate · 05/08/2012 20:33

I'd rather go to Zizzi then Pizza Express. I do limit the times I go to each unless I have a discount card though.

rhondajean · 05/08/2012 20:36

W had lunch at zizzi today - two diet cokes, a shared starter, two mains, and I used my tastecard so it was £16.50 Grin

squeakytoy · 05/08/2012 20:40

I think Zizzi food is really very good. And as others have said, there is always a voucher somewhere to download to get money off.

You cant moan at prices when there is a menu outside the place even before you enter the restaurant though. And it doesnt really sound all that expensive for 4 courses (2 each) and the other meal plus drink.

LadySybildeChocolate · 05/08/2012 20:43

This doesn't add up. Do you still have your receipt? Pizzas are about £10 each, so you couldn't have spent £30 on a bottle of water, 2 starters and a child's meal. Confused Check your receipt, it sounds as though they overcharged you.

PorkyandBess · 05/08/2012 20:49

I had lunch there on Friday. 2 'superfood' salads (gorgeous!) and 2 diet cokes.

I think it was about £25.
