Scary films and stories for kids

I saw the first part of nanny McPhee - the big bang today... I just didn't get it... She's ugly and gets more attractive as she helps kids...that seems ridiculous when teaching children about equality and fairness... Secondly, she teaches them not to fight by using magic to physically abuse them? I'm confused...

As a child I really took witches, bogey men, rumplestiltskin seriously! I hate all these scary stories. Now I have a dc, I'm wondering why I would put him through the same thing. I used to be scared of the dark and would hide under duvet even if it meant I couldnt breathe well...

I also read wizard of oz sequel picture book with all the girls heads... Obsessed but petrified by it.

What are your views?

Didn't see that bit! Turned it off! Maybe I'm being oversensitive. It's so individual. I saw terminator at prinamy school age and loved it...

I loved scary stuff as a kid - ghost stories, etc. I had such a wild imagination that if anybody had limited that kind of thing, I would have dreamed it up anyway. Kids love dark stuff (within reason). Maybe your DC won't be exactly the same as you are... watch how sensitive s/he is and respond accordingly.
