to think if someone asks you to unload the car, that includes the boot?

Was late for hairdresser Smile so telepathically told illegally called DH from the car and told him I was rushing home and would throw DCs at him, then rush to hairdresser. I also politely asked told him to unload the car of the bit of shopping I'd done.

Came home and asked him where the olive oil was. Blank face. Went to car and unloaded fresh whole chicken, 2 boxes of Mini-milks and 3 bags of frozen meat from the boot Angry Angry Angry

AIBU to think "unload the car" includes the boot? And should we eat the frozen meat, it was in boot of car for about 3 hours!

My DH is like this, if I ask him to take the bins out for collection he will literally move the wheelybin out to the gate, walking past the full kitchen bin and the dirty nappy by the back door waiting to go out to the bin.

I asked him to make sure a shirt got washed, that was the only thing he washed despite their being a bag full of white stuff waiting to be washed.

It drives me up the wall. Why can't he use some common sense?!?!

squeakytoy · 04/08/2012 21:09

YANBU, but so long as it isnt too hot where you are, then the food should still all be fine anyway.

usualsuspect · 04/08/2012 21:09

The meat will be fine if you put it in the fridge

trixymalixy · 04/08/2012 21:09

Oh sorry, in my rant I forgot to say YANBU and the meat will probably be okay if it hasn't fully defrosted yet as long as you use it straightaway. Definitely don't refreeeze. K

phantomnamechanger · 04/08/2012 21:10

finish defrosting the meat, cook it thoroughly, then refreeze what you cant use . do not refreeze it now!

as for unpacking the car, I have the opposite - if DH unpacks after say a day trip out somewhere, he'll only unpack the main things from the boot, and leave the kids random wet socks, sunhats, sweet wrappers, water botles all over the inside of the car...........grrr

Bearcrumble · 04/08/2012 21:14

YANBU.

OAM2009 · 04/08/2012 21:21

Ooops! Blush bags of frozen mince are in the freezer Blush

They were a bit squishy but still a bit cold. Too tight to throw them out. Sad

Have I basically frozen us some delightful food poisoning? Shock

PS Thanks Thanks

The mince is probably fine but I think you'd be best to take it back out and fry it up then refreeze.

OAM2009 · 04/08/2012 21:32

Arrgghhh! This little domestic incident unfolded yesterday!

God, I can poison my family without having to resort to half-frozen, then defrosted and cooked meat. This is just laziness on my part Wink Sad

frozen mince = small free flow pieces = very quick to defrost (you said it was 3 hours?)

squishy = defrosted! NO WAY would I be refreezing that and using it!! money in the bin it might be, but it beats food poisoning any day!

CaliforniaLeaving · 04/08/2012 21:40

I think it'd be fine, I drive home in 40 degree weather with frozen foods (45 min drive) and bung everything in the freezer when I get home. Some stuff seems a bit squishy but I haven't made anyone sick (yet) The only thing I have had to throw out was a 2lb block of cheese I was missed and slid to the back of the boot and spent the night there, it was so disgusting when I found it, loads of the oil had been released and it looked like a block of cheese floating in a load of orange coloured oil Hmm

CaliforniaLeaving · 04/08/2012 21:41

It was missed not I. I have never slipped to the back of the boot and spent the night Blush

OAM2009 · 06/08/2012 22:25

Update - well, the whole "should we eat the possibly manky meat?" question has been resolved. Dearest darling husband unplugged the freezer 36 hours ago to charge his drill Sad Angry So it's mostly going in the bin! (apart from the ice-cream and the fish-fingers and oven chips we ate tonight Blush)

Your DH isn't covering himself in glory is he!

Numberlock · 06/08/2012 22:29

Not having a good week is he, OP?

phantomnamechanger · 06/08/2012 23:03

DH did this with the lawnmower a coupe of years ago and has never lived it down - we discovered 36 hours later and I spent the next 2 days cleaning the defrosted freezer and cooking & refreezing stuff that was salvageable - lots went in the bin though

the kids loved eating a box of slushy ice lollies!

WildWorld2004 · 06/08/2012 23:18

This is why i love living by myself.

Your DH needs a slap over the head with some common senseSmile

JeezyPeeps · 06/08/2012 23:21

Am I the only one wondering where the olive oil is? It doesn't look like it was in the boot

;)

MedalsTrumpDiamonds · 06/08/2012 23:26

Grin jeezy

HexagonalQueenOfEveything · 06/08/2012 23:30

I agree with WildWorld

OAM2009 · 08/08/2012 16:04

Grin at jeezy too.

Let me reassure you that the olive oil is safe - it was indeed in the boot but has got slightly overshadowed by the whole "throw it out or get food poisoning" saga.

I was going to get annoyed with DH for cooking pasta in sesame oil when I'd made sure to buy a whole new bottle of olive oil...when the next domestic drama unfolded...

It's a roller-coaster ride over here Wink
