We are everywhere!! There were hardly any when I was growing up, really I was a rarity!! Nowadays, well two out of my three children are ginger. Even Royalty has a ginger now!! Loads of ginger kids on Butlins today when I visited.

It is sad when children get teased for it. I was as a child. I was called duracell, carrot top and copper top. It didn't bother me too much though. My DD has only had positive comments. So much so that now when people say how beautiful her hair is she replies with 'I know' and a preening swish of her hair!! She has 'ginger' eyes too. They are hazelish but look ginger. Very hard to explain.

Ginger twins! How totally gorgeous :)

GingerWrath · 05/08/2012 18:06

I too am a ginger and proud! I have been told by a hairdresser that although I am ginger, I have blonde textured hair, it is long and very curly.

Was slightly Sad when Dd was born with white blonde hair but she is six now and the ginger tint is starting to sneak in!

IceCubes · 05/08/2012 18:41

MamaT - I'm sure I've 'caught' ginger from my very beautiful, flame-haired best friend. Whenever she comes out with me, everyone assumes they belong to her!

I love red hair- I want it but there is no way it would suit my skin tone Sad

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 05/08/2012 18:46

GingerWrath I am jealous of the texture. Mine is pure wire wool.

My DDs is long and straight and silky though, so I am pleased about that.

IceCubes I really do think it must be very contagious!! Better than chicken pox anyway!

I'm auburn and I got teased for it all throughout my school life, it was utterly miserable. I was still getting abuse shouted from the windows of passing cars at 17 (yes really) and I wasn't an unattractive girl Confused

stealthpenguin · 06/08/2012 10:26

I LOVE my ginger hair. The closest colour I can relate it to is Loreál's "Intense Copper" P74.

It's poker-straight though, which I utterly hate. Probably spent half my life curling it! Would die for curls!

MrsFruitcake · 06/08/2012 11:21

I have a ginger DS. He's 4 now and when you ask him what colour hair he has, he always replies 'ginger' with a smile and a giggle.

We recently introduced him to the work of Tim Minchin and now DS loves to sing the song Prejudice - 'Only a Ginger can call another Ginger Ginger' at the top of his voice, usually while we are shopping or in some other confined space with lots of people. He is definitely ginger and proud!

However, ginger prejudice is alive and well - when he was two days old, we went shopping and the lady at the till was cooing over him. She said he was adorable but then spoilt it by asking if I was upset he had ginger hair....my reply probably wasn't very polite!
