Just seems like there's always something you need or would like to know but it's so incredibly boring you'd be ashamed to put in chat or any other section.

At least if it was seen as a given that everything in that section was boring, people wouldn't feel embarrassed about asking dull questions. I know there's pedant's corner but that seems more geared to discussions about how highly educated the pedantic posters are and how thick everyone else is. Just a thought. I'd love to see a place on the forum where everyone can be their most boring selves with impunity.

thanks for the encouragement dilys. Rather dully, I was wondering how much it'd be to have someone clean a leather sofa today. Don't worry; I don't expect anyone to bat the ball back

Have you tried baby wipes on it? apparently they get nearly everything off everything...

Feak, I hope you get a decent inspector out to it, rather than some jobsworth.

PigletJohn · 07/08/2012 10:41

Dilys

Are you attempting to suggest that Housekeeping section is boring?

Shock Shock Shock
DilysPrice · 07/08/2012 11:52

I'm not "attempting to suggest" it, I'm stating it outright Grin.

But there's nothing wrong with boring. Better to ask a boring question than have a smelly washing machine say I.

PigletJohn · 07/08/2012 17:52

Housekeeping?

Boring?

Impossible!

FeakAndWeeble · 07/08/2012 19:28

I bloody love the housekeeping section Blush

Madmomma, you can get these little packs of lanolin leather wipes from lakeland and they're fab at cleaning leather furniture, plus they smell wonderful

Cailleach · 07/08/2012 19:55

Right, update on the grout situation, and I apologise for keeping you all waiting, because I can tell you've all been dying to know how it went on.

What worked in the end was bicarb of soda left on overnight then washed off, then baby wipes to take off the excess. And then I used the baby wipes to get the grease off the cooker hood, while I was in the mood I thought I may as well. Good eh? Thanks for that tip, worked a treat.

I have also come to terms with the fact that I'm officially a Real Proper Grown Up after I had a long and involved conversation with some random old lady in the cleaning aisle in Tescos about getting grout clean.

(just shoot me now :( )

Oooh, speaking of cleaning sofas, I was wondering how much it would cost to get my sofa cleaned, or reupholstered, or something. It's a tad grotty.

Can sofas even be reupholstered?

PigletJohn · 07/08/2012 21:37

They can be reupholstered, but it is a skilled, labour-intensive job and not much demand now you can buy chinese sofas so cheaply.

Even new covers are expensive, unless you can buy a couple of spare ones when you buy the furniture.

Some carpet cleaning companies also do upholstry cleaning. I dont know if theres risk of shrinkage or fading. Ask on Housekeeping.

Thumbwitch · 08/08/2012 03:28

Feeling the need for a small because my tip helped with the grout! Grin Bicarb and vinegar are amazing and work on nearly everything (but I wouldn't use them for cleaning a whole sofa).

For the sofa: loose covers? Or failing that, a big and heavy throw?

Icelollycraving · 08/08/2012 06:20

My dh is an upholsterer but tbh it's cheaper to buy a new sofa with all the deals now.

madmomma · 08/08/2012 09:59

thanks feak as it happens I'm going to lakeland today (thus cementing my dull status) so I'll get some. I've just inherited a lovely battered old chesterfield from my Dad, but with him being a bachelor he won't have cleaned it in 20 yrs.

FeakAndWeeble · 08/08/2012 20:17

Ah that's what I have! We inherited it too and it was thick with grime and a bit ponky. Hope the wipes work
