to think we should have a 'dull' section on MN?

Just seems like there's always something you need or would like to know but it's so incredibly boring you'd be ashamed to put in chat or any other section.

At least if it was seen as a given that everything in that section was boring, people wouldn't feel embarrassed about asking dull questions. I know there's pedant's corner but that seems more geared to discussions about how highly educated the pedantic posters are and how thick everyone else is. Just a thought. I'd love to see a place on the forum where everyone can be their most boring selves with impunity.

tilers say you shouldn't use white grout on floor tiles because it will never look clean. Instead use grey.

it must work on kitchen wall tiles too.

LineRunnerSpartanNaked · 05/08/2012 15:56

I'm trying to picture grey grout.

cheekybarsteward · 05/08/2012 16:18

Oh I hate biscuit knickers, you always get golden labs sniffing your gusset Blush

NagooingForGold · 05/08/2012 16:46

I've got grey grout in my kitchen.

It never looks clean.

I found myself saying to someone today, 'Oh, that's a nice fence.' Do I qualify for the dull and boring section of Mumsnet?

madmomma · 05/08/2012 21:00

If this was the boredom olympics fiveflowers you'd win silver Wink I'm very proud, but naturally I must reserve the gold for my tedious self.

I had a new fence put up once, and looked at it for quite a while, thinking how nice it looked.

VolAuVent · 05/08/2012 21:11

I'm in :o

FeakAndWeeble maybe it was because no-one knew the answer? It was a good question!

LineRunnerSpartanNaked · 05/08/2012 23:36

I would like to comment on my new fridge freezer.

I do like it, very much, but it makes noises, as though there is a rehearsal for Event Horizon going on inside it. That's all.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 05/08/2012 23:41

I commented to my son that a fleece in the Jack Wolfskin catalogue looked "cosy" today. Not only are my comments dull, now my fashion sense is heading in the same direction. Sad

I'd love a nice fence. Stop those nosey Nordic Walkers gasping in at me slobber on the sofa.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 05/08/2012 23:42

I meant slobBING but I probably slobber as well truth be told....

LineRunnerSpartanNaked · 05/08/2012 23:44

I like my home to be 'cosy' these days.

FeakAndWeeble · 06/08/2012 09:43

I have a lovely new fence but some fucker has complained about it and now the council are writing me snitty letters to take it down.

Sad

If I really do have to I'm going to hang wind chimes off all the posts for a few days beforehand and go out alot. GRRR.

Thumbwitch · 06/08/2012 13:19

Why do you have to take it down, Feak? Is it too high or something?

GentleOtter · 06/08/2012 13:28

I live not a million miles from Dull, recently twinned with Boring.Grin

Go on, ask me about removing tumble dryer fluff and the like.

FeakAndWeeble · 06/08/2012 13:51

It's over a meter and 'adjacent to the highway' so I required planning permission (which I did not realise) which they have advised they wouldn't have given. However, it's inside our boundary wall so it's not adjacent to the highway - plus at it's shortest point there's still a distance of seven metres from our boundary wall to the road.

I will fight them all the way - in fact today my lovely father has been out there painting it a nice dark brown colour in a bit of an 'up yours' to whichever snotty curtain-twitcher has moaned.

We only put it up because the only garden we have is at the front (we're on a corner plot) surrounded by a very low brick wall. DS is 17mo and quite capable of climbing over the wall plus obviously there's no way we could ever leave him in the garden unattended for even a second because it would take all of two seconds to stop a car, pick him up and drive off with him (I don't imagine paedophiles on every corner but at the same time, I don't disbelieve their existence).

I think that has to win a point for the most boring post so far, no?!

Thumbwitch · 06/08/2012 13:57

Goodness, aren't some places silly and petty.
Why wouldn't you get planning permission for that? It's crazy not to give it!

FeakAndWeeble · 06/08/2012 14:11

Careful, I may cry on you. I am by nature an obsessive and this fence business has upset me far more than it ought to! Every time I see a neighbour (we don't know most of them) I start shuffling guiltily and avoiding eye contact in case they are the ones.

We've appealed and I think they're going to take us to court so I shall have an opportunity to explain it's there for the safety of DS and also because I like to have some privacy when I'm sunning my flabby bits

icecold · 06/08/2012 14:35

i think the point is, if it is adjacent to a highway, then over a certain height it obstructs the view of the roads for motorists/pedetrians and is potentially dangerous...
(that is usually the basis for not granting consent)

Thumbwitch · 06/08/2012 14:40

Good luck with it, feak - hope you win your appeal :)

LineRunnerSpartanNaked · 06/08/2012 17:38

I'd be upset if someone questioned the validity of my fence. Are you even allowed trellis?

FeakAndWeeble · 06/08/2012 17:41

Apparently not Angry

icecold · 06/08/2012 18:35

But, does it obstruct a drivers view? Are you at a junction or something? What is the basis for the objection? You surely wouldn't want to put up a fence if it is obstructing view of the road for drivers?

DilysPrice · 06/08/2012 19:18

Agree that we have an entire Housekeeping section for boring queries along with S&B, Food, Politics, and three millions of threads about pushchairs, tents and chickens. None of these people seem to be dissuaded by the utter tedium of their queries. Go on OP, just embrace your inner dullard!

I once posted on S&B for advice on whether I could dye suede FitFlops from light brown to dark brown. I have no shame about these things.

FeakAndWeeble · 06/08/2012 19:19

No, it's 7 metres from the junction at its shortest point and 15 at it's furtherst. If that makes sense. We're on a bend you see.

So far all they've said is that we erected it without permission and have to remove it. So we said well what if we apply for retrospective persmission, and they said it wouldn't be granted because it's adjacent to the highway. Checked online and apparently the term highway also includes pavements (who'd have thunk) and it is adjacent to the pavement, yes, but so what? Confused
