OK so I'm a sad git who has a real "thing" for stationery. Been like it all my life and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
This time of year, with the shops being full of the back to school stuff is heaven for me....all those matching sets of pens and notebooks and and and STUFF!
unfortunately, neither of my children has inherited this perfectly mad rational obsession interest.

AIBU to want to have pen pots filled with lots of matching and toning pens and pencils, pretty and funky notebooks and just general stationery type STUFF in every corner handy places in the house?

In my defence, I don't smoke, rarely drink and only take prescription drugs Grin

yanbu, my mum was like you! After she died we found TONS of the stuff.

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 00:07

The 'stuff' looks inviting but if your kids are anything like mine, the 'stuff' disa-fucking-ppears by the end of September Angry

MrsApplepants · 03/08/2012 00:08

Yanbu, I love stationery too! Banned self from paper chase!

MrsKeithRichards · 03/08/2012 00:45

Oh you are so not unreasonable. I started a college course last year and I was the only one with a pencil case!!

jojane · 03/08/2012 00:53

Get yourself a diary from organised mum, I just treated myself to one and I LOVE it I got the family life planner, it has sections for Xmas, summer holidays etc. also comes with little stickers for things like inset days, car tax due, birthdays etc. I am obsessed with it and filling it in!

TheVermiciousKnid · 03/08/2012 00:53

Yanbu. I now have a stationery cupboard. [very smug] It's big. Lots of room for lovely stationery.

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 03/08/2012 00:56

I love the stuff too, but like Worra my kids lose anything nice I buy them before September is out Hmm

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 03/08/2012 01:28

YANBU. Stationary is lovely. I have boys that don't want any more than the basics and preferably in plain red black or blue Hmm

The fact that I can only choose stationary for myself means I have to choose far less than I want to.

Angelyaz · 03/08/2012 01:33

Ooh stationery rocks! Off to google organised mum... Grin

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 03/08/2012 01:42

I'm am incapable of looking after stationery! I buy a pack of biros from Tesco and when the time comes that I need a pen, the basterds are gone!

monsterchild · 03/08/2012 01:49

I love stationary. I have fun CatWoman stationary I use to write the neefs(nieces and nephews), and elegant stationary for the older aunts and uncles, and a few boxes of cards for various occasions, and the odd old map paper for friends.

I also love pens, but haven't been shopping for them in a while, must put on list...

NoComet · 03/08/2012 01:51

Modern DDs don't seem very interested.
It's not a special treat to get new beds or note books like it was for us.

DD1 worries about what the paper feels like (she likes painting), but is fairly disinterested in the cover.

Nice pencils and pens just get lostAngry

NoComet · 03/08/2012 01:55

Pens not beds

Sorry, p and b seem interchangeable tonight.

I've been in Wales! A virtual prize for the MN who can tell me why that's relavent.

Shesparkles · 03/08/2012 06:28

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! Just for clarity, the prettiful pens and stuff would be for in the house NOT for the children. If I try to interest dd15. She looks at me like I'm mad, in that "I have a pen mother, why would I need another one". Ds who's 10 is another lost cause, is only now that I'm managing to convince him to even take a pencil case of his own instead of relying on his teacher providing stuff! I actually have a box of pencils given to the kids over the years which haven't even been sharpened to a point for the first time.
I'm off to look at organised mum, I may be some time.....

DD (nearly 7) loves stationary, but she doesn't look after it. We live in Germany and have to buy all the stationary she needs for school according to a very, very precise list - we just got the list for Sept and she had a ball stationary shopping, and was also asking for various note books, drawing pads and fancy pencil sharpeners and pens and pencils "for home" - she didn't get the extras though as the school required stuff alone came to ?76! I get notes home a couple of times a year complaining that she has the wrong type of eraser, when she's lost her regulation one and replaced it with a pink heart shaped one from a set she had at home..

Ecgwynn · 03/08/2012 08:44

Become a teacher, then you will find you are presented with a CATALOGUE of stationery and your head of department asks you to 'write a list of the stuff you need'. I regularly order stamps and stickers and jazzy pens. The kiddies appreciate it when I use these things in their books and I get a stationery fix on the school budget!
WIN WIN!
My pupils are ever so motivated as a result, obv.

jojane · 03/08/2012 09:34

my dd has just turned 4 and loves stationary and notebooks and stickers and stampers and glitter pens and envelopes and notecards etc and i have to admit to stealing borrowing stuff that she has been given, i am currently writing meal plan ideas for this week in a hello kitty notebook she got for her birthday!

gothicangel · 03/08/2012 09:41

Yanbu my husband has to stop me from buying them, and staples have sharpies half price i wept a little at the sight of 50% off

Ecgwynn pen porn my god we need it! lol

TeriyakiWoo · 03/08/2012 09:45

MrsKeithRichards - I'm starting a college course this year and have got my pencil case already Blush

I don't care, I love stationery and my friend who works in paperchase knows all about it Grin

Smellslikecatspee · 03/08/2012 09:47

I love sharpies. .

I confess there is only me and OH but I still have the organised mum calendar and diary Blush

I have a drawer full of pens that NO ONE is allowed access to except me.

fuzzysnout · 03/08/2012 09:54

YANBU! Do you have a set of those dinky little highlighter pens that are no use at all because they're too tiny to highlight very much cos they are sooo cute! I'm feeling all sparkly and net huns now! Grin

I made the stationary order my job at work! I love the lyreco catalogue and would have on own stationary cupboard at home if I had the room!

My ds has a touch of my obsession. He's 6 but needed mini highlighter pens, I didn't argue, I understood.

Shesparkles · 03/08/2012 13:26

Ecgwynn I'm very envious of you! I'm very tempted by he organised mum site....is it allowable to just buy it for stroking purposes? I don't think I could bring myself to sully the pages! Grin
