MN has turned me into a mild lactivist.....

but blowe me, was watching Rai Uno and there was a Pampers advert. And for the first time EVER on TV advert (as far as I have seen) they showed a BF mum, and it was fairly close up (ie you could see breast/nipple was in mouth)

I am a bit off Italian TV as its beyond sexist, but I thought it showed a refreshingly open attitude to BF. you'd never see that on UK, why I wonder...

Got to be better than that formula one where the soft focus mum holds her baby in the weirdest bfing position ever - (then sends her soft focus LO out to play in the garden in a white dress

Kayano · 01/08/2012 12:24

Pisses me
Off that they show bf on every formula advert anyway. Who cares if it's in soft focus.... It's a formula advert.

Feel like I get mentally bashed round the head for not being able to bf as it is without having to be confronted with it when I'm off to buy formula

Jut saying

FireOverBabylon · 01/08/2012 12:24

because they can't show bums, boobs or nipples on British TV or in magazines - the world would end apparently and the DM readers would explode in fury

I remember living in France and seeing an advert for shower gel with a woman turning round in the shower. You could see her bum and a nipple as she turned. I came back to the UK, exactly the same advert was on TV over here, only you could no longer see her bum cheeks, only the general shape IYSWIM and no nipple on her breast.

Hugely frustrating - this is infantilising people to think they can't cope with seeing things like breasts or breast feeding.

well thats it Euphemia!

Italian TV has tits on everything, mid a news programme they will have little lap dance pauses wth two busty brunette beauties, so bad!!!

and yet, they are not at all fussed ergo the BF advert

Well, RAI Uno does have a thing for breasts, so at least they are showing them in a useful manner for a change!

Kayano · 01/08/2012 13:07

It's just you get 20k leaflets on feeding your baby when you're pregnant... None of which are formula leaflets

HV get catsbummouth if you mention formula

Formula adverts always say 'bf is best for your baby'

No shit, but nice way to make mothers feel like failures if they can't because there is so much bf emphasis it's ott IMO.

Yes say it's
Recommended but does it need I be all over the formula too?

Whatever about the English covering up female bodies that's nothing compared to the American's attitude to nudity.

They're still a bit apoplecptic over Janet Jackson's nipple flash. And yet America is the centre of the porn industry. The balance would seem to be a bit skew whiff.

Kayano, I thnk you notice it more, as you feel bad about it? I never felt any pressure either way TBH. I suppose what I am trying to say is to be at peace with your outcomes, and dont read the many messages out there as being a personal dig at you

MN is maga lactivist though! so maybe not helpful place to hang out Grin

jesus I feel bad on here, really, and BF for 6 months

OP posts:
Kayano · 01/08/2012 13:50

It's the pressure and build up to bf that does make you feel bad though IMO.

And once you have taken the decision and are happy with your decision to ff, you are again confronted with 'you do know bf is better right?' on the actual formula itself!

I find it annoying more than anything, I don't feel bad for not BF now because I did it for my mental health.

porcamiseria · 01/08/2012 13:54

ignore, ignore and ignore some more kayano xx
