YADNBU. I agree, this has nothing to do with holding open car doors. I'm plenty able to open a car door, and I'm guessing there were other unrelated people who tried to protect others as well. I'm sure the families and GF of those men also do not appreciate their memories being used like that.

"Can I ask a personal favour" bullshit status' that are always to do with some tragic disease - Yes, cancer sufferers all over the world are glued to their PCs waiting for you to C+P a status, and ready to name and shame any bastard who doesn't. That's not to say I don't want to know about cancer sufferers though! Same with the picture in the OP. Its the C+P/share this if you... Bit that does me. Its just lazy. I'd rather read "Thinking about the people lost in the colorado shootings, RIP" or "Wishes everyone suffering with X the best and hope they all make a good recovery". At least that would show they genuinely were thinking, rather than scrolling through a newsfeed and clicking a button because someone told them to.

YANBU - very wrong to use those poor men's behaviour to beat your own man up.

The first part of the message is fine, sad, tragic, thought provoking etc - but to use car door opening - that is crass.

My current pet hate is the "click if you think she's beautiful" plus photo of disfigured child, total abuse of someone who probably didn't agree to it.

I would body block my DD's from danger, but i won't do the million and one things that they would like me to, because they are to lazy to get off their arses.
