It's like a cross between a contraction and a tooth ache, but not as bad as that sounds. I had it briefly a couple of days ago, but all day today in waves

Left side in the waist area. I've prodded and poked and can't make it hurt, but there is a thickened area; it just feels Luke a full bit of intestine (?) But I can feel a really strong pulse in it

What could it be?

999? Hmm

It may be constipation, have you opened bowels today? Do you feel unwell with it at all?

Go to the health centre or GP tomorrow?

Have you tried taking paracetamol to see if it eases off? If it goes away with that then it's probably nothing urgent, safe to wait until the morning but definitely see your GP.

If painkillers aren't touching it then it's probably best to go to out of hours tonight, TBH.

BertieBotts · 29/07/2012 23:46

obviously am not a medical professional, if you are worried get it checked out tonight.

bejeezus · 29/07/2012 23:55

It's not constipation Grin

It doesn't feel like I need to be seen OOH. I feel fine in between the pain. But it really takes my breath away. Tis odd. Not sure if I feel ill. I always feel extremely tired/headachey/ like death warmed up, due to sleep deprivation...don't think I feel worse than normal

Gas?
I get horrible "toothache in my waist left side it seems to circle not quite from my spine to not quite at my belly button and all the way through on the inside. The doctor said gas last time I asked about it. Always the left same place and feeling, it goes after a few hours or a whole day. But it drains me.
I've had gas pains that were worse than labour Sad

Call NHS direct, where are your appendix btw? Thats the only thing that would worry me before gos tomorrow.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 30/07/2012 05:08

I get this sometimes and second the explanation that it is gas.

GrumpyOldWomanToo · 30/07/2012 05:35

These are exactly my symptoms from 11 years ago. The diagnosis was diverticulitis... sometimes called "left side appendicitis", because the pain in on the left (rather than the right, as with appendicitis).

Get thee to a hospital if the pain is severe, to your doctor or a clinic if it's not too bad.

iscream · 30/07/2012 06:44

There is a list of things that cause that sort of pain on the following link. www.buzzle.com/articles/waist-pain-on-the-left-side.html Hope you get some sleep and feel better soon.

bejeezus · 30/07/2012 06:46

I fell asleep, so it can't be so bad Blush

It is much better now, but still there

Thanks for all your replies. I'll see how it goes today

Kidney stones? Can be excruciatingly painful with wave-like pain when they are moving, then it settles down to a fairly dull ache when they settle, and so on until they are passed or removed.

Whatever it is, get it checked out!

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 30/07/2012 08:01

Possible infection? I had pain in my side that came in waves and it was a urine infection, but it was a little lower than what you describe. A quick urine test can confirm or deny it though, so I'd go to the docs just in case. A 3 day course of anti-Bs got rid of mine.

OutInAllWeathers · 30/07/2012 08:25

Perhaps you should get it checked if it is still there this morning, if it is an infection for example then best to start on antibiotics sooner than later.
