To think there should be some way for me to pass this ticket on

I bought a last minute ticket to an event yesterday. I would have collected it from the box office on arrival with my photo ID. I am now ill and can't go

I rang customer services, as never mind the cost (bad enough), I just think it's awful to have a vacant seat when someone else might well jump at the opportunity. I was told the only options I have are

(1) go to the box office myself (3hr round trip) and collect it then give it to someone else. This is impossible, and if I could manage that then I'd just go myself wouldn't I?!

(2) go myself (see above)

(3) waste the ticket that someone else could be using and leave the seat vacant.

It is simply not possible to get rid of tickets within 5 days of the event unless you physically have them in your hand and can give them to someone else.

London 2012 should be ashamed Angry.

Yes, sadly, really that ill Sad. Believe me, if there was any way I could get there I would.

It's not even the money that bothers me most, depressing though losing £100 is. It was such a fucking effort sitting on the website for hours waiting to pounce when they put them on. I missed several, so was amazed when I got these. I'm sure there will be people with just park tickets or outside the venues who would love to use this.

Grrrrr...

You dont know anyone that would take a free ticket off your hands and come pick it up from you?

OlympicMadness · 29/07/2012 09:09

The problem is I have to collect the ticket from a venue an hour and a half away from me. I can't do that, so can't even give it away.

slartybartfast · 29/07/2012 09:14

can somone at least take you to get tickets?

OlympicMadness · 29/07/2012 09:25

No. Don't want to go into details, but genuinely not just being awkward. Public transport today or car journey is out of the question. I'm just staggered that there's no way for me to authorise them to get rid of the ticket even with card details & ID etc over the phone or by email/internet.

Even if I was in hospital and the tickets were for Thursday not today, there's still nothing they could do to give it to someone else apparently.

Absolutely ridiculous and no wonder there are so many empty seats at the events.

slartybartfast · 29/07/2012 09:32

is it because you bought it last minute.
you bought it yesterday?

eurochick · 29/07/2012 09:35

Can you give it to someone who look vaguely like you (same colour skin, hair)? I doubt they check that closely....

They'd have to take the credit card I bought it with too. And yes, it'd be fraud.

The event starts in 8 mins, so a bit late now anyway really.

It is mainly an issue because I bought it last minute yes, but would be a problem for anyone who can't go but needs to collect from a box office for whatever reason... of which there could be many.

they dont know your ID.
so basically the credit card would be the only way.
bit dodgy.
but counteracts tick touts which should be good
bad luck you are ill

OlympicMadness · 29/07/2012 10:58

But slarty, you need photo ID too to collect tickets Confused.

Sorry, but why is refund not an option, make the ticket available for someone else to buy?
