Hervana · 27/07/2012 22:52

Erm no
But I can't be bothered to explain why tbh

Denise34 · 27/07/2012 22:52

The French seem to control all international sports events, they control FIFA as well.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 27/07/2012 22:53

All Olympic announcements are in French first no matter where they are held. See the other thread.

Nancy66 · 27/07/2012 22:53

it's the official language of the olympic games

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2012 22:53

Because the official languages of the IOC is French and English.

French always first

BlueBirdsNest · 27/07/2012 22:56

really ? french is the official language .......should it not be greek , or latin

OP posts:
MrsJREwing · 27/07/2012 22:56

That explains it. I was annoyed with it being in an English speaking host country, that it wasn't English first.

LingDiLong · 27/07/2012 23:00

The founder of the Modern Olympic Games was French and the IOC Headquarters are in Switzerland. So French is the first official language, followed by English.

Denise34 · 27/07/2012 23:01

Do they only use French and English even when they're in countries that speak neither?

MrsKeithRichards · 27/07/2012 23:02

It always goes French, host country then English. French first for the reasons above and isn't French the most widely spoken language in the world?

JeezyPeeps · 27/07/2012 23:03

Thd official language comes last - so if it was in Germany, it would be French, English, German - or so I believe.

LingDiLong · 27/07/2012 23:03

Denise34, it's French, English and the host country's language.

JeezyPeeps · 27/07/2012 23:04

Sorry, official language of the country.

TheDreadedFoosa · 27/07/2012 23:04

Wot dem tryin sayy we french??
Dem ingurunt innit doe?!?!?!?!?

MrsKeithRichards · 27/07/2012 23:10

Yeah I got it wrong, French, English then host.

Southwest · 27/07/2012 23:12

Surely more people speak Spanish and English than French worldwide?????

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 23:16

are we trying to suck p france's ass or something

Charming. And a pretty ignorant OP for all the reasons given already.

LingDiLong · 27/07/2012 23:19

According to wikipedia Mandarin then Spanish, then English are the 3 languages with the most native speakers.

lovebunny · 27/07/2012 23:23

its ok. tell them stuff in french. the games are in the uk.

ivykaty44 · 28/07/2012 00:58

get used to it as the rest of the games will be in french and then English, It has happened before or did no one notice 4 years ago?

BackforGood · 28/07/2012 01:00

Not always the host country though - I was in Wales on Wed. and everything was only spoken in French and English....

Pompano · 28/07/2012 01:03

wow I can't believe what upsets some people! French is the official language of the Olympic Games. GETOVER IT. Or learn some French...

MarygoeZforgold · 28/07/2012 01:08

Lovely Hmm

Why should English always be first?

ivykaty44 · 28/07/2012 01:09

BackforGood - London is the host not Wales, they spoke English in Coventry as well when they had foot ball at the Richo
