Having a break cos of procession bit.. but have loved the quirkyness of it.

usualsuspect · 27/07/2012 22:56

Token mentions.

It was all bleedin Mary Poppins

beaker25 · 27/07/2012 22:56

It really doesn't seem that londoncentric to me. They've shown a fair bit of london, which is understandable given where it is. Think they've made quite an effort to include the rest of the country too though.

bigkidsdidit · 27/07/2012 22:56

Yes I did seeing as you bid by city, not country. Didn't have to mention anyone else

I'm quite chuffed at just how many countries have a woman carrying the flag :)

Birdsgottafly · 27/07/2012 22:57

We had a bit of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, so Liverpool still got alook in.

Lets face it, the jubilee was pretty much Northen and we've all had enough of Mccartney.

I must be getting old, i've loved this and the Jubilee.

dobalina · 27/07/2012 22:57

A cnd sign, an acid smiley face and relax in the olympic ceremony; I am delighted. Not to mention it being very much about the people.

rainydaysarebad · 27/07/2012 22:59

There's some pretty fat people repping some countries Confused

RedHotPokers · 27/07/2012 22:59

I enjoyed parts of it, but found it very disjointed. The NHS bit was weird, but I enjoyed the music - particularly great to see Evelyn Glennie - she is amazing!

AlbertoFrog · 27/07/2012 23:00

Why was there a clip from Gregory's Girl? Much as I love that film it's not the best thing to come out of Scotland.

And is it just me who thinks that guy off the Rhyme Rocket looks like John Gordon Sinclair?

Sorry - bit of a derailment there.

JeezyPeeps · 27/07/2012 23:00

You can't please everyone!

I'm about as far from London as it gets in the uk, and I think it's fab. I love the fact it's not all glitz and glam, and instead is focussing on the place we live.

Annie Lennox was featured (eurythmics in the 80's section) - she hails from Aberdeen.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 27/07/2012 23:01

Yeah, Frankie Goes to Hollywood were clearly the most signficiant thing about Liverpool Hmm
who is this Boyle person and why does he have shit for brains?

DappyHays · 27/07/2012 23:03

Jeezy, Annie hates Aberdeen though, and doesn't waste any time telling anyone when she's about.

ahopskipandafurryone · 27/07/2012 23:03

It was Northern Ireland that was included, not Ireland btw.

Birdsgottafly · 27/07/2012 23:05

We were speaking musically, so what the face is for i don't know.

JeezyPeeps · 27/07/2012 23:06

Rainydays - people don't need to be slim to compete in every event - I suspect they are more likely to be archers than athletes!

thebody · 27/07/2012 23:09

Think it's entertaining, we can't do 200 people turning right in unison cos we ain't Chinese!!

Where the hell has lovely David Beckham gone, who was the lucky butch in the boat?

thebody · 27/07/2012 23:10

Bitch not butch...

CarlaBruni · 27/07/2012 23:11

Who is Danny Boyle? Is that a genuine question? Confused

I think the Gregory's Girl bit was just to get the quote on for the little boy meets girl storyline

Pagwatch · 27/07/2012 23:12

It was Jess Ennis in the boat wasn't it?

Debeez · 27/07/2012 23:13

I'm not embarrassed. I've even felt a little bit patriotic. Our monarch had a laugh, we celebrated the NHS, our amazing writers and musicians, our history.

My son and I have had a curry and we're still watching the athletes march out, looking at the flags. A lovely memory of a once in a lifetime event.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 27/07/2012 23:13

It's perfectly genuine yes. Who is he? And why did he get to inflict his appalling taste on millions of people?

Boyonce · 27/07/2012 23:13

I generally not at all patriotic, nor do I usually give a shit about these things. But, I really enjoyed the opening ceremony. It celebrated Britishness and our history and culture.

No, it didn't look at the bad bits, what country would?

Yes, there was a hint of cheese, but isn't that British?

Certain parts actually moved me, and I have a heart of stone.

Debeez · 27/07/2012 23:14

Who is Danny Boyle?

He directed the ceremony. He can be an acquired taste. IMDB will give you an idea of his range. Personally I think he's brilliant.

JeezyPeeps · 27/07/2012 23:14

Karlos, I'm sure 'shit for brains' Boyle would be able to use google...

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 27/07/2012 23:15

"IMDB"???
