To think it is hypocritical for parents who are anti 'Tory elitism' and are Labour voters to send their child to a grammar school?

Aibu to think a parent who is a Labour voter and anti 'Tory elitism' and private schooling, might be hypocritical to accept a place at a grammar school for their child? If you have left wing views, would you accept a grammar school place?
This is not about me by the way or anyone I know. Just a hypotheitcal question I've discussed in the past and found interesting.

Even if there was a way to test for ability where coaching can make no difference, there are not enough state grammar schools in the country to be able to give every child that would pass the test a place.

And some of those children who would pass the test are better suited to a more comprehensive education anyway. Like my intelligent ds2 who does well academically, but would much rather be doing the more creative subjects anyway.

We need more grammar schools and we need to improve the standard at comps, but unfortunately so much of the standard of comps depends on parents. There is only so much the state can do.

I am a middle class lefty. I could have put my daughter in for a grammar school test (we live in south east London) but I am sending her to a not particularly posh at all comprehensive. I also have pretty high educational standards, and a couple of degrees, one of them from Oxford.

I also like champagne and have written for the Guardian. HTH.

Oh, and I went to a comprehensive; yes, a fairly middle-class one but certainly not exclusively so.
