To want to sing along to the radio ALONE!

Why the hell does it make me so cross when DD joins in singing along to the radio?

I honestly don't know why I hate it so much!

I just stop singing until she stops. It's so stupid.

Please tell me I'm not the only crazy lone singer?

I'm with you! DH always tries to join in when i start singing.....it's soooo annoying. I'd have thought he'd want to be quiet so he could concentrate on the sheer beauty of my voice which in no way sounds like a piss on a fart

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 25/07/2012 12:20

Oh I'm under no illusions that people would want to hear me.

I just hate other people joining in!

Maybe I was in a girl band in a former life....

Gosh, how mean you are op. Hope you're being tongue in cheek.

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 25/07/2012 12:24

Dd does this to me. I keep telling her I have the voice of an angel but she gives me this Hmm face.

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 25/07/2012 12:24

:(

Not really no :(

I never say anything. Obviously there are times when we have a bit of a singsong but it's when I busy and singing along and she joins in that annoys me.

I don't know why. That's why I'm curious if others get it too.

I never want anyone in the house when I'm singing, due to the fact that I make un-neutered tom cats sound like winners of The Voice. Sometimes DH comes home from work early and I'm plugged into the iPod singing whilst I do the ironing. I am mortified! That said, I'm not sure that it would bug me if they sang along. I guess we all have 'things' that irritate us for no good reason and this is just your thing. YANBU though, as far as I'm concerned!

RobotLover68 · 25/07/2012 13:37

YABU OP - I love it when the kids join in from the back and we all sing at the top of our voices out of tune driving along

StuntGirl · 25/07/2012 14:05

I also hate it when others join in if I'm singing along. I also especially hate it if it's my brother because I can't adequately describe how awful he is Blush

Never say anything to them like, I just stop singing and silently seethe Grin

perplexedpirate · 25/07/2012 14:39

Are you, or have you ever been, in the Sugababes?

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 25/07/2012 16:24

Perplexedpirate. I might have been. I mean, I don't remember being in the sugarbabes but they've been through so many people it's entirely possible I suppose!

I'd never ever tell DD to stop. We do have mad moments where we will sing like loonies but it's irrational and I can't explain it. Just sometimes when I am busy and singing along to the radio - particularly if it's a song I like - I just get fed up one she joins in!

I promise this is the only thing I'm a grumpy bitch about apart from interrupting me during phone calls

Perhaps she finds your singing really irritating but has learnt that if she joins in it makes you stop?

NotLikeThatYouWont · 25/07/2012 16:36

I'm not mean at all - we have regular top-of-the-voice singalongs - but sometimes I also feel a bit like that. It isn't singing together with my dcs that's the problem at all. It's the fact that something casual/absentminded that I was doing is suddenly steamrollered into being a big performance.

This is a problem because since childhood I've had the habit of singing to keep myself calm/focused, especially when I'm really busy or needing to concentrate. So I'm charging around, or really focusing in on something - find myself absent-mindedly humming a few bars without even particularly noticing...

... and suddenly it's COME ON MUM! LET'S ALL SING IT TOGETHER!! YOU DO THAT HARMONY THING AND I'LL COME IN AT THE CHORUS! LOUDER!

StrawberrytallCAKE · 25/07/2012 16:46

Yabu that's really sad. I would love to sing with my 3yo dd to the radio but if I try to join in with her she tells me off. I am guessing she would probably think yanbu. Meanies.

NotLikeThatYouWont · 25/07/2012 17:59

See what you're like in 10 years' time, Strawberry. One of mine is 13 Grin. Suppose I should be grateful that she still wants to be in the same room as me, never mind singing! Wink

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 25/07/2012 18:07

I've been thinking about this today and I've come to realise that I'm only ever annoyed when I'm already busy. So I think it's a concentration thing. If I'm focusing on something and singing along I can't handle the added distraction!

< goes to find hairbrush for major session WITH dd :)>

You sound like my 3 year old. If he sings nobody is allowed to join in, and he shouts until we stop.

Bluegrass :o

NotLikeThatYouWont · 25/07/2012 18:20

With me, it isn't about singing at all - it's about the fact that the most absentminded/private moments are now public. A bit like wanting to go to the toilet on your own when they're small, much as you love their company.

imnotmymum · 25/07/2012 18:22

we all sing along really loudly ! DH hates it in car as he "concentrating on driving" Biscuit
