Went to H&M this morning and got a bikini for dd. Got home and realised that the security tag has not been removed. Off on holiday tomorrow so I haven't got time to take it back. Any ideas on what I could do? So annoyed

If you have the receipt and bag, just go into any nearby supermarket, and ask them if they have the magnetic tag remover thingy and could they do it for you. It happens all the time, so I am sure any shop wouldnt mind as it would be obvious it was an oversight and you hadnt nicked the item.

LargeGlassofRed · 24/07/2012 12:17

This happened to me once, I found a video on you tube showing how to remove it.

itsthequietones · 24/07/2012 12:18

Same as Large, just google 'how to remove a security tag from clothing'.

ruddynorah · 24/07/2012 12:18

Ring the shop. Where I am we have sent someone out to remove tags in this situation.

barbie007 · 24/07/2012 12:30

Thank you! I think I'll pop into Tescos and see if they'll do it for me...I have the receipt and it's a £3 bikini so I hope they'll help. If not I'll try the tips on you tube....I'm much calmer now I was so wound up about it!

Hope they can help. It's happened to me twice (didn't think of going to another shop to help though). The first time the tag came off easily using youtube instructions, the second time it took ages and lots of prising stuff off with pliers, got there in the end though!

SugarBatty · 24/07/2012 12:44

So all the petty criminals go on youtube eh?!

My suitcase I bought 3 years ago still has one on as I didn't realise until I got to the airport!

WheresMyCow · 24/07/2012 12:45

If you have a strong magnet that might help too.

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2012 12:48

It just shows how they don't bloody work then Grin

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 24/07/2012 12:50

Ask in your local supermarket (but if they use differently shaped tags, they might not be able to remove it for you). Otherwise, call up the branch of H&M like ruddynorah says above. When I worked in retail, if this happened, we would send a staff member to the customer's house with a portable tag remover to sort it out.

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2012 12:53

For the sake of a £3 bikini?

I can't see it somehow. I imagine the OP will get an apology and a voucher.

During the last heatwave baby DS had a horrible cold and was screaming constantly, 'twas horrible. Rushed out to Mothercare to buy a 0.5tog sleeping bag, got home at just before closing time and realised it still had the bloody tag on! Called shop and demanded someone come out - they didn't but they said just cut around it if he could sleep in it like that and return for a brand new one the next day. Was a big relief and the first time I've been impressed with Mothercare customer service!

BourbonBourbon · 24/07/2012 12:59

DH got home later and said he could have removed it - he used to work in TK Maxx ad apparently they often got stuff in with original tags on and had to be creative getting them off. Well that was his story anyway Hmm

Clicketyclack · 24/07/2012 16:14

It can be removed as my dh did this ages ago when I brought something home with the security tag on(I had paid for it obviously) but I have no idea how he did it-used a tool/cutting thingy of some sort-but it can be done if you know any handyman etc.

KittyLilith · 24/07/2012 17:17

I had a pair of boots delivered a couple of weeks ago that still had a tag on. I hit it with a hammer until it cracked off. That's not a good idea if it's one of the inky ones though.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 24/07/2012 17:24

pliers. works if there is enough of a gap between the pin and the tag.
No decent store manager would allow a member of staff to a customers house to remove a tag - who knows where they are sending them and to who? Hmm

DanyTargaryen · 24/07/2012 17:24

FIL once got the one of my luna hood with pliers. No damage done either.

jamdonut · 24/07/2012 18:13

I managed to use a fine hacksaw blade to get one off once!
