I'm new here so wondered what are the top tips and advice for newcomers posting on this board? For instance, is it best to tread with caution (find your posting feet slowly) or leap straight in?!

No lovebunny

If you see bullying then challenge and or report. Remember that your rotten bully might be another's robust debater

GhostShip · 22/07/2012 19:46

What's the other thread about? The abortion one?

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2012 19:46

Yes Ghostship but it's being zapped.

Has the OP just set a record for speed of first deletion?

RuthlessBaggage · 22/07/2012 19:52

Name change.

Use a username generator if you can't think of anything. Some of the most complimented usernames come randomly.

Why was it deleted? I don't think anyone actually answered the question did they?! Okaaaaay! So I need to ask 'tamer' questions.

PedanticPanda · 22/07/2012 19:58

Just jump right off the deep end with a controversial thread, it's the best way to learn :o I've had a few flamings on Aibu and it hasn't scared me away, which is good as I've had plenty of support here too :)

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 19:59

I won't name change....yet!!

No not tamer questions
Non-inflammatory ones

Also you need to not turn into a heart-sinker type poster who goes on everyone's shitlist

PedanticPanda · 22/07/2012 20:04

Oh I've just realised it was you who posted the abortion thread... I didn't meant controversial to quite such a degree as you did there!

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 20:04

Heart sinker poster?! What's that?! I didn't think it was 'especially' inflammatory, controversial though yes. It's just something I've thought before and thought it could be discussed. Clearly I was wrong!
Why and bother- no worries. I won't ask it again!

Oh dear oh dear oh dear... And I'd just commented on how happy I was to be in at the start of the bunfight rather than lost at the end.Sad

OP, can I just ask, why that particular topic? I don't want to go into the stand-up fight debate you wanted to start, I just want to know why you wanted to start it.

AllYoursBabooshka · 22/07/2012 20:14

While I admire your guts I think it's better to build yourself up to a full blown bun fight, Let alone start one.

:o

Moominsarescary · 22/07/2012 20:21

Don't think it has anything to do with it being a parenting site

SardineQueen · 22/07/2012 20:30

What was the OP?

We have had plenty of debates about abortion on here. Am intrigued now!

AllYoursBabooshka · 22/07/2012 20:41

It was a case of "Surly just double up on contraception if you don't want a baby" mixed with inaccurate statistics Sardine.

It reeked of bun.

SardineQueen · 22/07/2012 20:50

Oho

Bun indeed!

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 20:52

What does bun mean anyway? I'm presuming you mean like having a bun fight.
Of course abortion is something that can be discussed on a parenting forum. I've often discussed it on one. I agree it's controversial but very relevant.
Mrs Wembley- abortion is a topic which particularly concerns me.
All yours- the stat was similar to those I've seen posted on a WHO website (world health organization). Not made up or inaccurate.

OP posts:
AllYoursBabooshka · 22/07/2012 21:05

Well the only thing I could find to back up the statistics you gave was a daily mail article that was filled with errors.

However! We can't really get into it because the other thread was deleted and I'm sure you don't want this one to go as well.

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 21:14

Fair enough Babooshka. There is a dm article on it but the stats were based on a study published by the Guttmacher Institute, this study is backed by the WHO. I didn't just make them up!
