I'm new here so wondered what are the top tips and advice for newcomers posting on this board? For instance, is it best to tread with caution (find your posting feet slowly) or leap straight in?!

Thanks for all the advice. I will try to take it on board. I hope it's not too bad form to keep my username- I'm used to it from another forum- though will change it if the person without the 1 is still posting!
I used to post a lot on another parenting forum and am not one to shy away from controversial threads normally. I also try to read all the thread before commenting. My 'weakness' I suppose is that I can take things personally. 'I must develop a thicker skin' shall be my mantra.
So let the fun begin!

Never start one yourself and if you are tempted assume that at least 50% will disagree, some strongly.
Do read it all, there is nothing worse than piling in and finding that OP apologised and changed her mind 50 posts ago.
Apart from that don't be intimidated - some people will ask why you are posting, will patronise, will ask why you are getting so steamed up about it etc etc. Every single subject is open to all - those with children or without, of whatever age , whether male and female - however much some want to make it a private, self congratulatory club!

AllYoursBabooshka · 22/07/2012 18:36

If someone says "Don't Google this", Don't.

iloveACK · 22/07/2012 18:41

I agree with Babooshka - I've had to bleach my mind with some of the things I was told not to google Grin

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2012 18:46

Plus if someone says 'do google this' don't either. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2012 18:47

No clicking on links unless you are sure. Especially not the Tubgirl one. I still haven't recovered.

RaisinDEtre · 22/07/2012 18:51

Also bear in mind that aibu is a tiny but noisy part of the MN massif and that the other boards welcome your insight, input, experience, wit and wisdom.

If you stick soley to aibu you will miss out on masses.

Icelollycraving · 22/07/2012 18:51

Things you need to be on mn:
Thick skin at times.
A butterfly mind, the best threads flit from one thing to something else v quickly.
Mind bleach, for all the lemon party, dragon butter threads.
Time,it's addictive.
Lack of hun, lol, any kind of text speak.

Welcome,I bloody love it!! :o

Customise your settings so that the Ops posts are highlighted. So if you don't want to read a very long thread you can at least read the OPs updates.

Bugger it didn't work Sad

OlaRapaceFru · 22/07/2012 18:53

I've only been here for two years (namechanged a few times) and I still haven't dared to start a thread in AIBU (I have in other topics), although I do post on AIBU threads!

But, yes, it's good fun, highly addictive and you 'meet' some great people. Welcome Grin

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2012 19:27

Um liketochat1. I have just seen your first AIBU . I am a bit worried.

yousankmybattleship · 22/07/2012 19:32

You sound quite nice and normal here, but your AIBU is bizarre.

Icelollycraving · 22/07/2012 19:33

If you take things a little personally, your other aibu is a bit of an odd choice Hmm

usualsuspect · 22/07/2012 19:34

Your first AIBU is a bit ,err stupid TBH.

ElephantsCanRemember · 22/07/2012 19:35

Just read your other AIBUs. Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2012 19:36

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 19:36

Well, nothing like jumping in at the deep end! I will have a look at what they said in a minute.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2012 19:37

Um, I wouldn't if I were you. Sad

lovebunny · 22/07/2012 19:39

i'm relatively new. my advice would be - there are some mners who will attack you, even follow you from thread to thread. they are bullies. ignore them.

Moominsarescary · 22/07/2012 19:40

I'd name change now

Icelollycraving · 22/07/2012 19:41

Jesus, can only assume you are a lazy journalist?

usualsuspect · 22/07/2012 19:41
