Is it unreasonable to be nervous and feel disrespectful going to the cinema and watching the Dark Knight now? Dh wants to go but I'm not sure. What if there are copy cat killings here? I have heard of bags being checked in some cinemas as people go in. I don't know if I could enjoy it now after what happened. What do you think?

It's not unreasonable to feel nervous if you're a bit of a nervy person...but YABU to feel disrespectful.

If bags are being checked, I expect you'll be safer than ever before anyway.

I don't know if you're in the UK but if you are, well we don't really get too many copycat things do we?

And certainly not straight after the event.

rainydaysarebad · 22/07/2012 15:19

YABU for feeling disrespect about going to the cinema. As far as copycat killings go; I think it's highly unlikely and there's no reason to stop going to the cinema just because of that. You can't stop living your life because of one isolated incident that happened a million miles away

noblegiraffe · 22/07/2012 15:23

Don't give the total cunt of a gunman any more power than he has already had.

See going to see the film as a big Fuck You to him.

I can only imagine that it would give him pleasure to see takings for this film plummet as a result of his actions.

FaceForRadio · 22/07/2012 15:30

life goes on.

If everyone had that attitude then we wouldn't go on boats, we wouldn't fly anywhere, we wouldn't cross the road...

Go see the movie. I can only echo what noblegiraffe said

FallenCaryatid · 22/07/2012 15:33

I didn't let the IRA terrorists screw up my life, or the Jihadists. I'm not going to live in fear of the consequences of one American killer either.

timetoask · 22/07/2012 15:33

I read that it's a very violent film, not my type

Kayano · 22/07/2012 15:36

I went last night. I think that gunman would have found anything other event to shoot people.

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 15:53

You are right noble giraffe. I guess the gunman might well be pleased to see ticket sales plummet and I don't want him to get his way if that's what he wants.
We don't get lots of copycat killings but they are always possible. And I do feel it's a bit disrespectful after what happened. Maybe it's too soon after the event.

Ands that's what my dh says Kayano. He thinks if someone is a psychopath they will find some outlet for it. We can't go through life guessing what that will be.

Bags are being checked for pirating equipment, dh said they are also doing checks with night vision for people recording and that's not the norm at his cinema.

NeedlesCuties · 22/07/2012 20:25

Was the gunman some Batman fanatic though, or was he just a general nutter?

I echo what others have said. Don't give him a 2nd thought, go see the film if you want.

bobbledunk · 22/07/2012 22:51

Your loss if you chose not to go. It was a brilliant movie, everybody in the cinema loved it.

As for being nervy about shooters in the cinema, you're more likely to be blown up by a terrorist bomb (not very likely even if you live in a city), stabbed to death on the street or murdered in your home than you are to be one of many gunned down by a lone, deranged nutjob in the cinema.

McHappyPants2012 · 22/07/2012 22:58

It will only play into the criminals who opened fire.

the actors, directors, script writers, tea people to the stunt doubles and every other person involved in this film have worked hard to make this entertainment so go and enjoy it

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 22/07/2012 23:13

The film is a great movie. Saw it this afternoon.

If you don't go, then the gunman wins. Its respectful to carry on with your life and not let people like that control you or make you live in fear.

PS Anyone else wonder how Catwoman manages to go to the loo in her outfit?
