Am I being unreasonable to think that if I wanted an Argos catalogue

..I would go and get one, or request one to be sent perhaps? Just opened front door to find one dumped on the step complete with plastic carrier bag. I rarely shop at Argos, if I do its on line. I dont want a catalogue to sit with all the other crapreading material in the house. Neighbours are away and theirs is sitting on their doorstep. Surely it must cost a fortune, not to mention the amount that will end up in landfill. Go on flame me, my first AIBU Grin

Is this a new thing? We don't get them delivered here.

If I were you, I'd do your neighbour a favour and take theirs in...otherwise it's going to be obvious to everyone that the house is empty.

thewizenedone · 22/07/2012 09:44

Not sure if its a new thing or not, we are fairly rural too. Makes me a cross because it will go straight into recycling. Luckily neighbours have returned but would have moved it otherwise.

Never heard of this!

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 09:48

I get loads of catalogues (not from Argos admittedly) from shops I've never even heard of. Straight in the recycling. If the government are serious about recycling then they need to crack down on all this.

YANBU

BURN IT!

firawla · 22/07/2012 09:53

Oh I would like it if we got one delivered, didnt know they do that

thewizenedone · 22/07/2012 09:54

I can only assume its an "initiative" from the local store to drum up trade perhaps Hmm. Its bad enough with the junk the postie gets to deliver but the damn things are bulky and heavy, not to mention the carrier bags as well, just emptied all the drawers and cupboards of stray carriers and determined to have a bag with me at all times, in an effort to be greener.

I have never ever had an argos catalogue delivered. If we want one we pick one up instore. Tend to shop online anyway so don't need a paper copy.

thewizenedone · 22/07/2012 10:02

My point exactly Seona1973, I am sure some people would like one, or pick one up when in store but it seems ridiculous to randomly decide to deliver to an entire area, which is why I think it must be a store decision. Doesnt help that we also get Bettaware catalogues delivered that get left mouldering outside when they dont get collected lived here for five years youl would have thought that they would realise that I am not buying Grin. I know some people do this for jobs, but its in their interests surely as they pay for the books, to either note where they dont get orders, or collect the books.

I have the same issue with Next directories. Ordered from them once, online, now they won't go away. I grieve for the trees and the sheer wastage.

pouffepants · 22/07/2012 10:22

I'm in the middle of delivering 500 next directories. Now admittedly, they are all to next customers, but most say they don't want them, and just shop online, but have to have the directory to keep their vip status.

Each book weighs 5kg, and there are approximately 9000 next couriers doing this at the moment across the country. We distribute 4 times a year.

If that's not a colossal waste of glossy paper, then I don't know what is!

Seona1973 · 22/07/2012 10:23

You can cancel the next directory although I used the automated telephone number and still got the directory. Had to phone them and speak to a real person instead.

Seona1973 · 22/07/2012 10:24

The VIP sale is crap though! Haven't bought anything from it for years.

pouffepants · 22/07/2012 10:25

Yes you can cancel the directory, but according to the people that love the sales, you lose vip slots for the sale which is the only time they shop there.

pouffepants · 22/07/2012 10:26

By the way, never, ever bought anything in the sale, but my God, having delivered all the stuff, some people but more clothes per sale than I have bought in my entire life.

pouffepants · 22/07/2012 10:26
