Is it just fat???

Or is it some kind of disorder/illness that causes the body to hang right right down at the front?

And why do some people get it?

Why do people carry fat in different areas?,Mines always been my bum and hips.

I started to catry weight around my middle, which I think people of a certain age, put down to 'middle aged spread', me included.

Turned out I was Insulin Resistant due to PCOS. It was discovered because of my extreme fatigue and where I was carrying my fat. Too much sugar and refined carbs, best to do a low GI diet if you think this is you.

I've battled with my weight all my adult life, my muscles are shot from having children and now my skin is old I do look awful. Trouble is with me it triggers not being able to face food at all, the last time was 3 months, the weight did fall off, I went down 4 sizes, but then I was thin and looked even worse.

I wish words didn't strike home and I didn't care about others opinions, but I do.

Words and opinions affect me too rubycon Just in a different way to you. It is crap when you hate the way you look isn't it? I know that even if I lose all my weight I will look awful so my head asks me "why bother?". But I know that is the wrong way to look at it, I just need to train my brain.

rubycon · 21/07/2012 11:14

I've been trying for almost 60 years, you'd think by now I wouldn't care. I seem to have spent my life covered up - when commonsense tells me that nobody is looking at me.

BIWI · 21/07/2012 12:07

Sorry, rubycon Sad

Our relationship with food is a strange one, isn't it?

Morris - Yes, I do believe what he's written, given how much research/effort/work evidently went into it. I'm interested why you don't appear to like/agree with him though? (And very few pictures and not much light relief in his massive tome!)

It'sallgongtobefine has it about right APART from the veg fat good/ animal fat bad idea. If you eat too much veg fat you can end up with the wrong balance of Omega 3 to Omega 6. Too much Omega 6 from veg fat , not balanced out with Omega three from animal sources, can have an inflammatory effect on the body. It one theory behind the huge rise in heart disease in the west that occurred after the introduction of cheap margarine, if the inflammatory response is in your blood vessels it's not good!

Meat and milk from predominantly grass fed cows has quite a lot of Omega three in it, as obviously does fish.

I just want to give rubycon a hug :(

Shinyshoes1 · 21/07/2012 20:59

I have an apron it's because after 3 cesarean sections and having my stomach muscle cut to buggery each time there is no stomach muscle there so the fat just hangs down

Nice thread btw Hmm

Wigglybeezer, my mum told me that she once watched a programme about cockroaches in a food warehouse. They ate everything, including cardboard, plastic etc, except the margarine. What does that tell us?

When BIWI and others talk about fat being good, they are talking about fat from natural sources eg fish, nuts, eggs, meat and dairy products. No one thinks hydrogenated fats or trans fats are good!

wigglybeezer · 21/07/2012 23:01

I wasn't just meaning transfats though, too much sunflower oil would be bad too, I Was taking the transfats bad thing as a given.
