to wonder what that is, that some unfortunate fat people get, hanging way down towards mid thigh??

Is it just fat???

Or is it some kind of disorder/illness that causes the body to hang right right down at the front?

And why do some people get it?

The question wAsn't unkind but some responses were.

Pinot · 20/07/2012 19:49

Yes, some responses were a bit gleeful.

maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavour · 20/07/2012 19:49

I think the question is fine to ask but I am very Hmm at strandedbear

mirry2 · 20/07/2012 19:49

Does it shrink once the person loses weight? I hope so otherwise it must be so soule destroying after making such an effort

ElephantsCanRemember · 20/07/2012 19:50

I don't think the OP was being unkind. As she said, she wondered if it was a disorder/illness or if it was just actual fat.

Pinot · 20/07/2012 19:50

Gunt is a well known term. But tbh I thought it referred to the bit you get after a caesarean, that sort of flops over your knickers. Like a pannus but much smaller and surgically produced.

Anyway :)

Pinot · 20/07/2012 19:51

mirry I don't believe it does 0 I think the elastin is so lost, the only answer is skin removal as mentioned

ElephantsCanRemember · 20/07/2012 19:52

mirry I imagine that if the person manages to lose that much weight they would probably be left with a fair amount of excess skin that only surgery could sort out.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 20/07/2012 19:53

It's just fat. And the muscles behind it still work perfectly, they are just not strong enough to support that much weight, and the abdominal muscles are higher up anyway. And the fat itself, which is what the "dangly" apron consists of, hangs down because it's not rigid, it's wobbly. If you want a picture of mine, you can have one. But you have to come and collect it in person and tell me why you want it to my face Grin

babyheaves · 20/07/2012 19:53

I think whether you've had children makes a difference as it loosens the stomach muscles.

SoleSource · 20/07/2012 19:54

I am very fat but i do not have anything hanging from my body. Must be great to be so perfect on the outside OP but rancid on the inside

Moominsarescary · 20/07/2012 19:55

A gunt? Pinot I prefer overhang thankyou. It doesn't overhang to my thighs though so maybe not the same thing

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 20/07/2012 19:55

Oh and I'm not unfortunate either Confused just fat.

SamuelWestsMistress · 20/07/2012 19:56

I've heard it being called a "gunt"!

Pinot · 20/07/2012 19:56

I don't like the term gunt! It's horrid. Especially as I have one. Mind you, those cement knickers from Marks & Sparks are a god send!

maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavour · 20/07/2012 19:58

I've heard lots of terms used that are horrible or offensive but that doesn't make it ok

ElephantsCanRemember · 20/07/2012 19:58

I'm fat too but I'm not offended by the Op. If she had linked to a picture of a woman with a fat apron/overhang with the intention of sniggering and laughing then yes that would make her a bitch. But she didn't. OP asked a simple question.

LentillyFart · 20/07/2012 20:02

Horrid thread, lots of horrid posts but the Biscuit for yukkiest goes to strandedbear. Revolting.

bejeezus · 20/07/2012 20:04

I really dont want a picture pom thanks Grin

Crapping hell you lot...I'm not judging anyone for it....just wondering what it is Confused

I would consider it unfortunate if I had one. If you have one and you are pleased with it, then great...sorry I offend you Smile

I have canckles if that makes you feel better....possibly thankles actually...

Vagaceratops · 20/07/2012 20:05

I have to say its something I have wondered about OP, so I am glad you are brave enough to ask. I often wondered if it was caused by weak stomach muscles.

I have heard it referred to as a 'front-bum' Confused

bejeezus · 20/07/2012 20:06

AND I consider them unfortunate! Grin

ElephantsCanRemember · 20/07/2012 20:07

bejeezus No I don't like my overhang but I love my skinny ankles Grin

bejeezus · 20/07/2012 20:08

I'm pretty slim - have never been overweight. But even when I weighed scarily little (8 stone) I always had a tummy - I've never had a flat stomach. By the time I had DC4 my muscles had given up completely and I had support belts etc to hold the bump up because nothing else was going to do it. And I still look vaguely pregnant - except I'm too old.

So yes, in answer to the question - some people just seem to have much weaker abdominal muscles than others, and I suppose if you're overweight that will be exaggerated - there's more for the muscles to have to try to support.

GenericNameChange · 20/07/2012 20:26

I agree with strandedbear, it's called a gunt where I live. or a punj but I couldn't find anything about that on google, must just be a weird midlands thing!
