to wonder what that is, that some unfortunate fat people get, hanging way down towards mid thigh??

Is it just fat???

Or is it some kind of disorder/illness that causes the body to hang right right down at the front?

And why do some people get it?

People accumulate fat in different places.

I have the suggestion of this and am (only) about two stone overweight (and have had two c sections).

I have a friend who is much much heavier than me but she has a flat stomach and the most gigantic a big arse.

Another friend in the 2 stone overweight camp has a terribly fat face and double chin.

It is just plain fat.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 20/07/2012 20:29

I have a hanging down bit. It's from being pregnant and being huge, then losing weight, causing me to have an apron of skin. I have been fairly close to getting to my normal weight range and still had this apron and it makes me look a size or two bigger trying to wear clothes around it to hide it.

Pinot · 20/07/2012 20:31

I do think two things are being described. On overweight people, it can be "just fat", literally hanging. On people that were overweight and have slimmed, I think it can be excess skin that has lost elasticity.

slowestwildebeast · 20/07/2012 20:42

yabu to ask such a ridiculous question.
Post a picture of yourself, I work in health so I can examine your dangly flaws.

rainydaysarebad · 20/07/2012 20:46

Did you watch "The Men who made us Fat?" on BBC2? You gain fat like that drinking coke. I've given it up since I watched that, and I can already feel my waist and tummy getting thinner. Admittedly, I do have baby fat to lose, but I think coke played a big part in my overhang.

schmee · 20/07/2012 20:54

Mine is from being pregnant with twins. It gets worse when I lose weight. So I don't think it's "just fat" - I think it is mostly loose skin that has been stretched out during pregnancy. We multiple mums call it "twin skin" but I think anyone who has had a really large baby can have it.

Hope that clears it up.

jamdonut · 20/07/2012 21:03

I will own up to having a "fat apron" like this...it occurred after I had my 3rd child, my muscles just seemed to disappear. I had no problems with getting back into shape after my first two children, but it was just so different this time. (I have never been "thin", but not always fat.)
Now ,12 years later, it has not got any better , and I have put on a lot of weight. I always look about 6 months pregnant. If I was one of these people who you see in the papers that live on takeaways and cream cakes all day I could understand it. I eat fairly healthily, don't drink to excess and don't smoke, but weight just keeps on creeping on... I don't like it,but I can't see a way out. It makes me mad when people think it is so easy, and are so judgemental. Sad

jamdonut · 20/07/2012 21:06

Schmee...that makes sense...my 3rd child was 9 pounds 4oz, much bigger than the others!

TheQueensDinner · 20/07/2012 21:09

YABU. What a vile thread.

HandMini · 20/07/2012 21:18

Rainy, why does Coke give you the overhang as opposed to other fatty foods (sorry, but will never get round to watching the programme?).

Desiderata · 20/07/2012 21:24

Why is it vile? Jeez, some people are sooooooo touchy ..

SoleSource · 20/07/2012 21:34

What are those jaunty sticky out things on anarexic people?

rainydaysarebad · 20/07/2012 21:38

Well I know it gave me an overhang - its the high level of fructose in place of sugar in coke. The fructose disables a chemical called leptin in the brain which is important as it tells your brain when you've had enough food. When the leptin is disabled you keep eating, as you think you're hungry. It's well known that fatty foods build fat around the stomach, hence the overhang. Babies and c sections cause it too, but I would think generally, obese people are victims of the food industry. I don't believe obesity is a genetic problem.

HappySeven · 20/07/2012 21:40

It's just fat and skin. An apronectomy is something you can have to remove it (not joking).

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 20/07/2012 21:42
LeB0F · 20/07/2012 21:43

Carby foods (and sugar in drinks, eg alcohol) encourage fat around the middle, rather than fatty foods, I am discovering, because they provoke an insulin response.

MainlyMaynie · 20/07/2012 21:45

The great thing about threads like this is they give posters who are twats a chance to identify themselves. Like warning triangles.

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 21:48

Gosh, some of you are really unkind :( Let's all point and snigger at the fatties, shall we? I thought MN was a bit kinder than this TBH.

Nothing wrong with the OP's question (although a bit daft, what on earth could it be, bar the stomach hanging over) but wow. Some of you are a bit quick to stick the knife in.

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 21:48

You're right MainlyMaynie .

Shall we update our spreadsheets?

LeB0F · 20/07/2012 21:49

I don't like the point-and-laugh stuff, yellow. It's not very pleasant.

SoleSource · 20/07/2012 21:50

LeBOF that is fascinating because I recognised a link there too within myself when on a VLCD. My middle reduced greatly and when I eat sugary foods it is HUGE. as it is now

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 21:51

I'm really interested in why people are getting fatter, LeB0F. I find the stuff about coke and that corn syrup that's in everything fascinating (and sad too because it ruins people's lives).

Lining up and giving people's perceived flaws degrading names is just a bit...bleh. I expect MN to be a bit nicer than that.

rainydaysarebad · 20/07/2012 21:52

Ah, that makes more sense then leBof. When you think you're hungry you naturally go for carbs and sugars.

I know coke made me fat. It was my craving during pregnancy. Never again.

ElephantsCanRemember · 20/07/2012 21:55

No I don't like the point-and-laugh stuff either. But I think it is ok to ask a question about something we are not sure about and I think the OP asked about it in a reasonable way.
When pregnant with my first DC I put on a ridiculous amount of weight (I was young and naive, believed I was eating for 2 and assumed the weight would fall off, ha ha), Then when I lost 4 stone and got to a size 10 my "overhang" did lessen but it never fully went. Another 2 Dc later and I am far too overweight but I have to admit, however stupid this sounds, what scares me about losing weight is what my body will look after.

Lucyellensmum99 · 20/07/2012 21:56

Gosh, what an unpleasant and immature thread
